I'm brand new to this fine site but I thought that I might put a question out here to see what people think. It relates to a fairly small group but I'd be interested in anyone's opinion.

To put context to the question, I'm a wedding photographer and that time of year is around again were it's time to sign up to wedding directories. My question is, due to the fact that most directories are packed with lots
of photographers selling their wares, has it come to a poinT where there's little point joining these sites anymore as you become engulfed and lost amongst the crowd of baying snappers smile.gif.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Daithi

    Where are you based?

Perhaps consider advertising in local media (local website, newspaper, leaflets, etc)?

    Just an idea.

Can I ask how long you're at it? I'd have always thought that most experienced wedding photographers would get most of his jobs from people who are friends/family of previous satisfied brides/grooms?

Could be completely wrong of course, but i just always had that assumption.

As with any business, you should go to where your market is. Do the market research on it. How many enquiries/conversions to sales did you have in the previous year from the directories you are part of? Word of mouth can be very worthwhile with weddings and thus you may be better investing effort in social networking with clients and prospective clients. I don't think there is a one size fits all.
