Thinking about getting an Apple TV. Just wondering if there is a way to get it to play other file types as well as mp3, mov and mp4? Also, thinking of trying to get it to work with Boxee. Can anyone advise me? Or is there a better alternative out there to do this, in the same price range as ATV?

Hi Dave you'll need to flash it, firecore has a flash that will jailbreak it and install software on your ATV 1 gen and 2nd Gen.

This will install Boxee and XBMC and allow you to use mp3, AVI files.

Not sure on the rules of discussing this kind of thing, so if a mod deems it not suitable could they please delete this post.

OK. I have been looking into this further and I can't find for sure if it works on the latest versions of Apple TV...

read the support thread on the firecore website, it should be able to inform you, its pretty easy do the flash and the benefits are great. :)
