    Mornin folks,
Looking for a decent estate at the minute, max 2L diesel or petrol, about 2005-8, something reliable. An above-average interior finish would be a bonus.
    Budget 5-9k.
lookin at Mazda 6 or Subaru Impreza at the moment - Octavia or Avensis I'd settle for but they're so drab...I'd be grateful for some inspiration!:D
    Cheers,

    a novice buyer

Volvo V70 is the daddy of estates. Petrol 2.0T is a lovely engine but thirsty around town, no experience of the diesels. If you are looking for interior comfort the Swede's seats are regarded as the best in the business. Good quality materials all round, its a really nice place to be. A proper estate too; seats fold flat meaning its HUGE in the back.

Fanboi that I am I should mention the ALFA 159 too, I suppose. Gorgeous looking, but stick to the Diesels; 1.9 JTDm is a peach.

I'd start off by getting out there and driving a good selection - see what you like.

    Sound advice Anan1.

Cgt, the volvo V50 had occurred to me, but not the V70 - they look like the definitive tourer surely.

Prob be doing 15k miles a year, so hoping to keep running costs in check (maybe volvos are a bit pricey to maintain?, but dammit they look great).
Is the concensus at the moment that there's good value to be got in petrols, (e.g. 1.8) with all the demand for diesels?

    The head-sctratchin will continue...:)

The Legacy Tourer is a fine looking beast too.
I'm looking at the Saloons myself and the Tourers are kinda turning my head, if I'm honest.
