This isn’t the venerated internship of the privileged college student, building valuable work and life skills with school credit and on-the-job training in place of pay – if such an internship even still exists. Historically, Foxconn’s low-wage internships involve essential factory labor by poor students, some of whose areas of study have nothing to do with electronics, and turn the “school credit” idea on its head. According to SACOM, vocational students, including those studying journalism, tourism and languages, have had practically no choice but to participate in such internships if they want to graduate from their schools. As temporary workers, they have little legal protection or recourse in the event of injury, over-work, or underpayment. And if they complain, they could jeopardize their diplomas.

All the trouble these lads have to go through just so us lot can pop down to the shop and buy a shiny piece of electronics in shiny packaging and use it not so much for any practical purpose as to say "hey look I'm so modern, the latest iShoite 5, better than your slightly slower iShoite 4GS" all earned by some lousy accounting or marketing job pushing money around and convincing people to buy things they don't need while these 'interns' slave away doing any of the real work.

These interns should be at home on the farm behind a plough strolling through the field not working long shifts in some filthy chinese city and being driven to suicide. If there are no proper decent quality jobs for them they shouldn't be given any. Tieing these internships in with schooling is just more of the evil Communist party exploiting its people while the elite live the good life.

"behind a ploug strolling through a field"

    yeah
    strolling
that's exactly why so many people are desperate to work in places like foxconn and escape the rural poverty. Too many relaxing walks.

It is in the interest of the Chinese government to maintain a good supply of peasant workers willing to work for half nothing and they would have done a good job of it except their supply might dry up due to the one child policy & shortage of women

iLike this link better. Pictures of the suicide nets etc. Some factory over there has 600,000 workers. Students spend a fortune in time and money graduating for jobs in the place.
