I have an NCT this day next week.

On the front passenger side tyre wall there is a slight slice in the rubber. Noting major as its not deep.

On previous experiences will that tyre pass or will i have to fork out for a new one?

The current tyre is pretty new with very little wear.

I'm guessing it should pass, and even if it'd fail, you will just change tyre and come back for free visual retest.

It depends on the tester really and the mood he is in. I myself would replace it before it blows..Can you not put your spare on at least??

Nct manual. Section 36. Tyre condition, reasons for failure.
    Reasons for failure.
    3. Any cut longer than 25 mm or 10% of section width(whichever is shorter) and which is deep enough to reach the ply or cords.

I would be more concerned about the damaged wall of a tyre causing a blowout rather than if it will pass the NCT.

Yes, but you're a rare breed in this country!! Most only get new WanLi-Ditchfinders because their old canvas remains failed the NCT, not because they may crash and die.

Assuming what he said is true
On the front passenger side tyre wall there is a slight slice in the rubber. Noting major as its not deep.
I can't really see a need to change tyre, and I wouldn't call it damaged.

I'm guessing it's more likely something like that or smaller

    And not something like that:

Have a car for NCT on Tuesday. Its a 20 year old car that my grandparents had from new, but has not being used in a year cos retired from driving. ie. tax, insurance nct all expired around April 2011. Its been in the garage since but has been started/driven about 20 miles in the last week by some 1 with a garage plate to bring it to my house as a favour. its not smokey and has only 88K. Has only done @ the very most 400 miles since last nct in May 2010.

I live about 1.5 miles from the NCT centre (country roads) and was going to tow the car there as obviously i cant transfer insurance over as it has no NCT.(i wont ask guy with garage plate)

Q is, do they look for insurance at the NCT centre ETC? or any advice of sim suitation?. ??

Going to put some stuff in the petrol for the fumes etc and maybe give it a good run before test for a few miles (tow obv)..

    Thanks

    Of course you can.
NCT is most likely not needed to transfer insurance.

    No, they don't.
