I am looking at buying the new model one of these, 1.6 diesel, 75bhp ( my budget just stretches to the 75BHP)

i be using it mainly on motorway, unloaded how is the 75bhp version power wise? is it ok? or too under powered?

any idea on what the fuel economy is like on it too?

Hi, deleted your duplicate post and copied over what you asked in to this one.

Hopefully you'll get the answer you need, this has also probably been discussed on the main Motors forum.

funny to see this post, I just picked up a 2012 caddy van (75 bhp) this afternoon. Its a lease van for the company i work for so we had no say in things. My first thoughts of it are it seems fairly underpowered compared to my previous van, 08 opel combo. It's a lot more comfortable to drive than the opel, the seats are in a lot higher position. Standard equip is a bit better too, defrost windows, rear wind screen wiper. It seems to handle a lot better than the opel, tyres look wider and better quality. It seems to be a bit quieter driving as it has a better bulkhead. I can't say on the fuel economy yet, i filled the tank (75 euro and it already had 1/4 of a tank)

hi there, thanks for taking the time to add the info, according to the brochure the caddy has a 60L fuel tank, if it feels underpowered would it probably drink the fuel?

I'd think it would. I drive the M50 on the way to work and to keep it cruising at 120 you need to press the accelerator at least half we down and all the way to the floor in some places.Personally if it was me I wouldn't get a 75 Hp model, I'd say the 105 Hp would be so much better. Company pays for fuel so I don't mind driving around foot to the floor if i need to but i would say its going to make a big difference in the economy. Now if you are just spinning around the city it probably would be good for that but any 10 mile or longer journey at speed it's just not enough

thanks for the update, whats it like on fuel so far, suppose it would be ok for going along at 55-60mph?

Seems bonkers seeing as you don't necessarily need a van, and a lot of cars have cheaper tax, more comfort, better economy and more seats.

Very true but you try and haul a turbine engine in a car :). I take it you are referring to the OP.

its much handier to carry scuba bottles in a caddy than a small car,

i have €16,500 in total to spend, and that could get me a new 1.2 polo 5dr petrol, or a caddy 1.6 diesel.

i want to buy new , and the extra space in the caddy is handy.

ok so , what do you recommend so for €16,500 total cost?
    all suggestions, welcome

    thanks

I have a 12 caddy 75hp and its averaging 1000 kilometers to the tank, last fill was 987km for 56 liters. little wind noise off mirrors but a good van and plenty power til you meet a steep incline fully loaded. they are great when it comes to resale value and thats why i chose it. also 30000 km service intervals. i bought mine from a dealer in athlone with alloys, elec pack and colour coded bumpers etc as cheap as the local limerick dealer was for a bog standard wind up window entry level model. i recommend to shop around.
