When you say its limbo for the A team You mean they have no league to play in? What about MSL? I suspect they will appeal.

So who the hell is going to be in the FD then?

    8 teams?

    Farce.

First division looks a little small at this stage.

Why is anyone surprised? It had already been decided that it was going to be an 8 team first division (without Tralee or Cobh).

It was set at 8 teams a few weeks ago and all teams to play in it are now confirmed. A Premier licence does not necessarily mean you play in that division

they should just make it a 20 team league, stop the same games being played so much!

And leave 15 or so of those teams with absolutely nothing to play for.

    Yeah, that happens nowhere else.

What leagues around the Irish level have 20 in their top division?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,950 ✭✭✭Pinturicchio

It would be 20 in the only division.

Yep, they apparently owe somebody money and haven't paid him in full or reached an agreement with him = no licence.

    Yeah, that happens nowhere else.

Do you think the likes of Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers want to have to go play in a field in Galway in front of ten supporters? It is vital for our continued progression in Europe that we play teams of the highest standard available week in, week out and avoid a situation where we play Wexford Youths on a Friday and then Juventus on a Wednesday. (No offence to Wexford)

Also the last time there was a large division, there was about 12 teams who did nothing for football here and were just happy to collect a payday when the handful of progressive clubs in the country came to visit. No relegation means we would turn into the GAA with loads of representatives who just dont bother. No thanks.

We dont really have relegation at the moment.

Not really sure what that GAA reference is about?

It was a comparison. It's a rhetorical device of communication often used when people are making a point during a discussion.

A 20 team division could work (and keep most everyone with something to play for) if it was done such that at the end of the season (or two seasons cumulative) the league would resplit into two divisions of 10 and 10, or 10 + 12 or 12 + 10 if Cobh and Tralee get their licenses.
