K im just wondering now if i can claim for any social welfare payments as my hours have been cut. Some weeks i will be getting 35 hours a week 6 days a week but on the most part i will be working 25 to 28 hours a week on thursday, friday, saturday and sunday. I am renting a place now with a friend too and my rent is 340 a month plus electricity bills. I have been working full time 38 hours a week for the past year but due to hours being cut across the board i have to be reduced. Also would i be able to get rent allowance or medical card too. I have no savings at all and am single. Appretiate any help i could get
    Regards
    john

You wont receive anything as you will be working 4 days or more. if you were workin 3 days or less (amount of hours doesnt matter) you could get job benefit.

On the weeks you work Thur, Fri, Sat and Sun you may get some payment as Sun is not counted as a work day at the minute. JSA and JSB are not run on a Sunday-Sat week so if you work 6 days and 3 days next week depending on the way the days run into each other you may not get any payment. But as you said in your op you will probably be working thur, fri, sat and sun mostly then you should go to you sw office and make a claim for casual jobseekers.

Perhaps someone with better knowledge of criteria for rent allowance and medical card criteria can answer that particular part of you question.
