:confused:I've been working in Administration for the past 15 years. Im bored now at this stage and want a change in Career.
everything i would like to do, you need a qualification of some sort. I've looked into doing a course in the areas im interested in, but just cant afford the prices of these courses €1,700+

Im sick of office work, i want to get out there and meet people, instead of sitting in an office all day seeing the same faces.
I worked in catering about 17+ years ago, which is something i wouldnt mind getting back into, but you seem to need a qualification now HACCP or something and any other jobs, you need so many months/years experience.

I just feel like im stuck in a cul de sac

Would you try doing some temp work in these areas your interested in to gain valuable experience?

if so you should talk to a recruitment agency they could put on a list of temps and when any roles come up you'll be picked to do the work, im sure they could help with regards what qualifications you need and maybe not at the costly sum of €1,700:(

I'd say start looking at courses that are cheaper/shorter and work from there. This would get your foot in the door and allow you to progress from there.

Hi Amzie, thanks for the reply. I have spoken to 2 recruit agencies about this, but they have told me, that most companies want someone that would already have experience.
Especially temp roles, as most temp roles are for a short period, and for maternity or holiday cover, so they would rather take someone in that knows what they are doing, it saves them on training.
this is what i was advised.

Training courses out there are just so expensive. especially in this recession. :(

I just googled HACCP, and see 1 day courses in Dublin for around €150 (including certification).

I'd recommend the book "What colour is your parachute?". If you ignore some of the religious bit that sneaks in, it's still quite a good career guidance book, and can help you make a plan for moving from one career to another.

Ah that's such a pity, places just don't want to give people a chance anymore:( well training seems to be the way then and I hope you get your lucky break into your new career!!

I'm actually in the same boat as you except I was looking to get into office work because I was so sick of working in shops! I did a training course, got work exp(unpaid of course:o) but I think it helped as I finally got a job a few months ago and have to say I'm delighted even though im on a contract I hope it will help for the future!
