My wife has been running for a year or so now and has plans to run a half marathon this summer.
She has always had an issue with her nose running like a tap during her runs. After a long run she has a nose like Rudolph and obviously this effects her running rhythm as well.

Has anybody else suffered this problem and are there any known solutions?
    Thanks

Does it affect her running? Certainly sounds better than getting a blocked nose!

I have been a runner now for @6 years and some days my nose runs in the same way your wife's does I take zirtex (allergy tabs) and they work fine for me usually take one 30 mins before my run .
    hope this helps :-)

I also have this prob but I didn't think there is anything that can be done.

Sometimes my eyes join in on the act and I just turn into a streaming mess...it's all very attractive.

When it's at it worst it seem to throw my breathing...keep trying to sniff and end up almost hyperventilating.

Stopping Dairy , orange juice/smoothes or similar did it for me. Both create fluid in your nose I find.

Yes cutting down on diary will help a lot. I think your noise will always run a bit when exercising but cutting down on diary will definitely make things a lot better and improve your breathing.

Another thing that will help is investing in a neti pot.

Zirtec plus drys the fluid up and limits the amount of fluid coming down the nasal passege,i use to suffer with this. milk or daity products are to be avoided

Gonna try reducing dairy, keep meaning to do this anyway as don't think it really agrees with me.

    I can't take Zirtek.

I looked up the neti pot thing and ...just made me feel ill.

Doesn't bother me that much just a bit annoying.

Thanks everybody for the info. She uses only Soya milk so her dairy intake is quite small....I hate to imagine how bad it might be otherwise. Will get my hands on the Zirtec tomorrow. :)

Yes it is a bit unpleasant at first but it really does work. It cleared up my asthma better than any inhaler or nasal spray I've ever tried and it something natural your putting into your body instead of more chemicals.

Some people do like to blame their diets, particularly those rich in dairy products, but I know of little scientific evidence to support this claim. A visit to your GP or an ear, nose and throat surgeon should lead to a more definite diagnosis and cure.

This is supported by personal experience. Was diagnosed with sports induced asthma, inhalers and sprays didn't really work, still couldn't breath and had a constant blocked nose.

Gave up dairy and it improved a lot, got a neti pot and never have had a blocked nose or asthma attack since. The neti pot is so effective i've actually gone back to eating some dairy, just couldn't live without cheese and still no asthma :)
