I've a rather strange problem with my feet that I can't figure out...

I can't wear high heels (when i say high, I just mean heels of any height, I don't go for skyscrapers) because my feet slip forward into them and I end up with a gap between my own heel and the back of the shoe.

You would think I'm just going for the wrong size.. but I take size six in flats and when I try to get into a size 5, or even a 5 1/2 the shoes are way too small for me.

I was wondering is there any kind of foot specialist who might be able to figure out what the problem is and advise me on what shoes I could wear or if there is anything I can put in the shoe to help with the problem....

If anyone has any thoughts i'd appreciate it. I've tried heel grips, but the gap is far too large for them to work....

Probably a really obvious question but have you tried a few different brands, for me I can't wear shoes from new look, not a chance, they don't suit the shape of my foot but I've found other brands that are even more comfy than runners.

Have you tried heels with platforms, they are so much comfier, my feet don't slip in them at all but normal heels are a nightmare so I don't wear them.

+1 to this - OP, have you tried different brands and styles? Mules, slingbacks, kitten heels, etc etc? I have a very, very high instep so certain shoes/boots are impossible for me to wear.

Yes try different styles of heel and shoe. My most comfortable ones are platforms with a strap - I can wear them all day at weddings, etc and even dance in them. They were pricey though.

I find my feet pushed forward in kitten heels, like you mention.

Peep toe shoes! You can wear them if they are a bit small and they will be tight enough to not walk out of them. Seriously I don't think you have strange feet - I see so many women wearing heels that are have a gap at the back and don't know how they manage to walk in them. Also try Ecco, they do really comfortable heels and some of them are not as old lady as you might imagine.

Sounds like your feet are quite narrow maybe? Different brands might suit you better than those you've tried - I find LK Bennett and Bertie a little narrower and more comfortable

My stupid feet do the same thing OP, and I have found that I can only wear heels with a platform. And even then I have to shop around for ages until I find a pair that suits! But there's a pair out there for everyone :pac:
