According to the UPC EPG and Website UTV is blocked fro tonights UEFA match between Arsenal and AC Milan (7.30 - 10).(This programme is not available in the ROI)

AFAIK UTV has never been blocked before in ROI.

This IS a surprise!
many people here predicted that when the ITV's returned some shows would be blocked.
anyone know what is going on?
is ITV telling UTV to go to hell for being outside the ITV family,or is UTV willing to let the franchise go and concentrate on broadband?

UPC have stated on their twitter a short time ago,
that it was an error on the epg. that the match
was blocked and that it will be shown on UTV tonight.

Just to confirm UPC will be transmitting this match as normal and it will air on UTV from 7.30 this evening.

Not the first time this happened. Aviva Premiership and Liverpool Victoria Cup rugby highlights have been listed as "Not available in ROI" also, but have been shown on UTV. I'm not sure why this occurs. I've never seen UTV actually blocked.

Note though, when this message appears on ITV4, the programme most certainly WILL be blocked. This has led to odd situations with rugby highlights where the exact same programme has been blocked on ITV4, but not blocked when repeated on UTV!!!!

UTV and ITV4 are under different ownership so maybe that's why it was always blocked on ITV4

Indeed. I think it may be more due to ITV playing it more safe with regards sporting rights than UTV, who have been on cable here for over forty years with no issues.

I think they are playing too safe though with ITV4, they are blocking practically all sports on it. Many of the sports they had blocked had no Irish rights holders (the LV Cup, the African Cup of Nations, various motorsports programming). The Irish highlights rights to the Aviva Premiership were held by Setanta last time I checked, who in fact broadcast the ITV highlights programme, complete with Craig Doyle and fully ITV-branded graphics!

Jason this has happened at least three times since you posted above.
i.e the EPG saying 'not available in the ROI'

where does UPC get its EPG from,is it from Skys Epg were perhaps the show(s) on UTV are blocked ?

UTV is not on Sky's ROI epg
