I hear the Octavia has a big boot. I could be wrong though.

There's not even a mention of service history on either of those cars, which would rule both out for me.

It does its bigger than the Volvo but that doesn't really matter to me

That Volvo looks very tatty for the mileage it's done.

I'd steer clear of both of those ones but overall I'd probably go with the Volvo myself as I just like them

    I would consider elsewhere also.
2nd hand octavias are very expensive (perhaps they are popular purchases as taxis)

for a few hundred more: Mondeo

That Volvo appears to be missing the Dual Zone Climate Control and Cruise Control that was standard on Irish SE Spec versions.

I'd take it over the Octavia, but I'd look on done deal for a better spec Volvo.

The Volvo is the basic model - there are no fogs either:pac:! That S40 looks like it has been seriously abused, the interior looks absolutely wrecked.

The UK spec S40 SE was alot lower than the Irish spec SE. Leather and cruise control were options on the UK SE but standard on Irish ones.

If you don't need the space then I would choose the S40 over the Octavia, the S40 seats are way more comfortable even though the leather doesn't stand the test of time very well. The S40 feels more upmarket and the 2.0d is alot more refined and powerful than the 1.9 TDi of the Octavia. On the other hand the 1.9 TDi being less complex is probably less likely to give trouble.

These might be worth a look at:
