I always find it entertaining to read posts on the likes of TGP about how someone managed to get a '62 ES-335 in a pawn shop for $100 and a used matress back in '82 when nobody wanted them, or whatever.

While I obviously don't expect anyone here to have anything truly comparable - 'vintage' in Ireland normally means a 1988 Strat that someone wants €2000 for - I'd like to know about any interesting deals you've managed to make over the years. It could be anything - something new, something second hand, something old...

I know you've all heard it before, but I managed to get my NOS 2004 Gretsch Anniversary for €850 shipped and taxed from New York in 2008. I think that one's pretty good.

I also got my Gibson Robby Krieger SG for a little over €1000, which I think is quite good, especially considering that a regular SG costs €1000 anyway.

What have you all managed to get?

I got a Peavey XXX for 300 quid. Which I then traded for a JCM900 SL-X (they're quite rare over this side of the pond, the only good JCM900's. Sell for 600 euro used), an ESP LTD EC-401vf which is 700 new and a hard case, and 100 euro.

I also had an Engl Thunder 50 combo that I got for 300, traded it for a Peavey Classic 30 and a modded SD-1, sold both for 500.

An Epiphone EJ200ce for 100 a couple of years ago with a hard case. It was a surprisingly nice guitar.

also bought a colorsound dipthonizer from a guy in UCD,for about 80 or 90 quid which I then sold for about 500-600 quid in the states (memory is getting a bit foggy on the amounts involved but in that ballpark)

Best deal I've had was my Danelectro U2 for €80. That being said, it's probably not really worth much more.

Found a Gibson Les Paul in the attic of a relations house. It's a nice sunburst colour, and there is a hand written recept dating to 1959. It now resides in a different attic. I must look into selling it...

I bought a damn near mint Marshall Mode 4 for 350. I decided 4,5 months later it wasn't for me then I sold it for 290 so that fella got a better deal!

I bought an ESP standard for 950 new (1850 new at the time) from instrumental before it closed.

Got a Sabian AAX Stage cymbal set (Hi-hats, Crash and Ride) for £295 online from Andertons in the UK about 4 years ago. So about 350 euro when converted over. Think it was some sort of sale or special offer.

Great deal considering the set sells for 725 euro on Thomann for example at the moment.
