Whats going on with the xray? Why would you want an xray? unless ur in agony?

    Plenty of reasons.. just two:

    a) check for leakages / small holes in existing fillings
    b) check internal structure of roots / nerves.

I thought with all those you would feel a little pain/sensitivity.

I was just wondering in case the dentist says something like..."oh no pain- well no need for xray then"

    Not necessarily..

Best to get a "leaking filling" in it's early stages - as you can pre-empt the pain when the decay gets into the root. And depending on how compromised the root is when you get "the pain", the filling may not take (then you'll require root canal / crown etc).

Can also show rogue wisdom teeth within the gums that may cause problems.

For info - the xray is stated as 'at the dentist's discretion'.

Nonetheless I live nearby and was due a check up so it's worthwhile for me. Thanks OP.

They'd take one look at my gnashers and go "you've been eating those Golden Crisps haven't you?!". :D

I also need one done. I'm going to ask them what the price of a filling would be when i visit them. Should pay them a visit this week or next.

    FEE GUIDE

Below fees of some routine dental treatments:
    Examination €35
    Scale & Polish €65
    X-rays €20
    OPG x-ray €50
    White fillings from €60
    Extractions from €80
    Fissure Sealants €35

On the initial visit a treatment plan will be discussed with the patient and an estimate can be provided.

Medial Card, PRSI, Laser and Credit Cards accepted.

€29 seems a great bargain. The other prices are not bad either.
    Nowhere near Cork though:(.

Yeah, when I looked I thought they were pretty standard for around Cork, although the scale & polish seems a bit steep - seems like there's benefits to living in the people's republic!:D

Will stick with my own guy though - am happy enough.:)

Wow, those prices are pretty expensive alright. Aww what part of the country are you in?

    Dublin.

Id say it would cost you on average €40 for petrol in total. Cheaper if you got the bus. It would still work out cheaper than a normal dentist visit compared to the prices you have up. :)

Ha Ha! Dublin to Cork - brings a new meaning to 'dental tourism' !:D:D

Although, I think those prices (brian_t) quoted were from Glanmire Dental Practice? They look identical to what I saw on their website:confused:

The €29 is good value - exam and clean don't cost much in materials, just time and wages?
I guess there isn't as much room to reduce prices if filling materials or laboratory work is involved? Anyone know if the new VAT increase applied to these?
