    Hi Lads,

    Decided to move from bargain alerts for this one. Hope there's a few of the lads on here too.

    Just a couple of issues configuring windows 2008 on it??

    I'm configuring Raid 5 via windows, I was looking into this smart start thing but it doesn't seem to work for some reason, I'm guessing smart start is only if you have a raid 5 card or something? Anyone know how much these are?

    So I'm going with windows raid 5 setup at the minute.

    Another issue I have is the NTFS only option on the formatting. I will be using the mac to transfer files to it. Am I better off getting Mac SW to write to NTFS or figuring out a way of formatting the raid 5 drive using fat 32?

    Thanks for the help lads.

    //Gary

    Share out a folder on the Windows and mount it on the mac. Windows restricts you to nfts over a certain size I think, even if it's a supported size for fat32.

    Nice one for the quick reply.

    So windows is the best option for setting up the Raid 5?

    Can I format a mounted drive on the mac?

    Not familar with the server specs. Is there a hardware raid controller in it?

    No the filesystem is hidden from you when you mount a share folder. You don't have to worry what file system is being shared.

    If this is your first server, windows is probably the best choice. Easier to get running.
