Looking for a good outcross Ped Char bull for a few Ped Char cows, have come across Thrunton Voldemort, british bull which cost 55,000gns in Perth in 2006,his progeny have done very well across the water at sales,I see he also bred Tully charolais champ last year so he must be fairly decent....has anyone used him on here?....whats his calving difficulty like?,.....hes in Progressive Genetics 2009 sire book so I would imagine straws could be come across....any replies appreciated.Want to stay away from CF 51/52,Pirate etc as they are overused in Ireland.

    Look at his calving figures.

I havent used him so I won't write him off on you but his calving figures would suggest caution.
There are many many more options to 51/52 /Pirate.

What would your priorities be in a bull?

Tried to reply earlier...so here goes again;),thanks for reply,ya I agree that the figures suggest he is hard calving but I think a lot of calving difficulties can be managed to an extent with watching the cows diet coming up to calving.....was hoping someone who uses Dovea on here had used him in the flesh as Stats alone dont always tell the full story, cows are good sturdy compact Charolais but want to bring a bit of length and growth to calves, and feel its time to get away from the likes of the bulls I mentioned.

Meant to say who uses Progressive genetics.

HWN would be my bull of choice if your using PG. Throws a great calf (if you've a good cow!) and has excellent star rating, good if your registering your calves. I wouldn't chance him on Ped heifers though. I did on what I thought was a big framed heifer and ended up with a big dead bull calf:o. Not much good. You seem to know how to manage feeding cows pre calving.

Out of Burradon Talisman. Know a lad that had three in calf to him. Said they were hard calved but not as hard as the twenty something percent that the figures would suggest. The calves were not notably superior to the other calves he had either, although time will tell.

Thanks for that feedback......as they say about a lot of bulls...if there isnt some bit of a pull the calf may not be hectic....in saying that though a dead calf, cow down is no good either.

I hav'nt used much of the PG bulls in recent years but my impression of HWN was a good bull commercially but not as good for pedigree breeding.

Is it the female line you are trying to focus on? NWK Newlook did a nice job for me on a particular cow type, could have done with a sliver more muscle maybe on the bulls!

Are you totally set on PG?

Would not really be for the female line as Thrunton Voldemort hasnt great figures for milk or fertility...just wanted a bit of length/growth and like look of him and his stock have done very well in England,no....wouldnt have mind set fully on only PG....so any suggestions of bulls not overly used appreciated that have good length to them.
