Can I go to my local tax office and have the ownership changed on the spot or do I have to post the form off and wait? I need this to be done asap for insurance reasons.

    Thanks.

As far as I know, you can still transfer insurance over. I have done it loads of times buying cars, driving them home, and then receiving the COO in the post a few weeks later. Hopefully someone else will confirm.

The seller should entered your details on the RF101 (back of VRC) signed it together with your sig. and sent it to DOT Shannon.
With regard to the ins.you're the legal owner, so there should'nt be a problem.

DOE in Shannon deal with Change of Ownership, not the motor tax office.

Another way would be accompany the current owner to the motor tax office and you give them the money to tax the car. Once you have the new tax disc, sign the change of ownership form and both of you go to a post box with it.

You can change the insurance over to the new car.

Its a quick turnaround now with the VRC.

I recently bought a car and the cert was sent off last thurs morn and I got the new logbook with my name on it today.
