Hi i have a few questions which are probably basic to most on here but please bare with me
First of all i have a first strike sat meter which i want to set up a sky dish to 28.2 east to receive free to air channels on a sky plus box.
The meter asks me to input different parameters starting with f for frequency which i put in 10714,next up is sr symbol rate which i input 22000,next is lo,local oscillator, i input 09750 then i set lnb to horz all above settings got from first strike global database, when i press scan and move dish around i find very good strength and even better quality. I then go inside to sky box and find almost no strength and no quality and a blue pic telling me no sat signal received.I later try changing settings and after many trys on different settings i receive bbc1 bbc2 etc right up to higher channels until i get up near the free music channels which they either break up or say no satellite, any suggestions what I'm doing wrong ?
    Many thanks

i know you posted elsewhere but you might be getting confused on the use of a sat meter, its not a case of plugging it in to dish, selecting a sat and then moving dish. You are toying with a fixed dish ie it is set up for 28east and thats what its for. you should look carefully at dish and note the elevation settings, then the lnb position and the skew on the lnb ie a twist, the lnb and dish has to cater for hundreds of frequencies, strong signals and weak. IN OTHER WORDS TO WORK PROPERLY IT HAS TO BE SPOT ON. A meter is a quick way of getting the strongest signal from the sat the fixed dish has been set up to receive. So when you want to get 18east, you set the dish elevation, and the skew on the lnb, plug in meter, then move dish for best possible signal. you cant use same settings on dish that you had at 28east.

say you had a motorised dish with usals, you set it up using your longitude and latitude, pick the sat nearest you, move dish and motor assembly to that sat, get best possible signal, tighten everything up, now when motor moves from sat to sat it adjusts elevation and lnb skew.

    post back if still stuck

ps when you say changing settings, what did you change?

OK ,thanks for the replies people
I would have changed the following settings ,frequency ,sr,lo and lnb vert or horz.
I suppose what iam trying to ask is if i had a dish mounted starting from scratch looking for28.2e what settings do i input to the meter for that particular satellite before searching?my apologies if iam not making much sense and thanks once again for the helpful replies there much appreciated.

Tp parameters from the sats. you're trying to align on would be a good start ...

If you're working as an installer, you should at least be aware of sites like http://www.lyngsat.com.

got you, here is a nice you tube link,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8i1Z2vLxIc

    and the fs1 website

    http://firststrikemeters.com/firsttime.html

and when searchin for sats you can have 2 settings, the strongest transponder to find the sat and then the weakest transponder to tweak dish.

and you are all set, dont forget dishpointer com

finally go to alsat forum and look at dishes etc

    enjoy

a sky box is very poor for what you are trying to do as it has fixed symbol rates so wil not pick up lots of channels.

use google as well its all online now and of course here
