    Hi.
Given that the physical CI license may not arrive by the start date, I can only assume that the license details I have given (CI License) will be trusted on the day?

I have sent entry away, will I get an acknowledgement that it has been rec'd. Thanks.

Also if anyone knows of a reasonable B&B close to the start then please recommend. Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭rottenhat

Just the license number will do fine but you may need to make a note of it for the sign-on sheet.

You should get an acknowledgement of your entry but if you don't, drop Kevin a line.

I usually stay in the Oatencake and I believe Eddie has already browbeaten them into giving us an early breakfast on the day so I'd say I'll book in there. It's just up the road from the start, maybe a five minute walk into town. Sage is a good choice for dinner but you may need to make a reservation.

    Thanks.

Booked into the Oatencake also. Seemd very obliging fellow.

BTW, has anyone else recd the routesheet yet?

Will be only my second audax ever. Hoping to do a a nice few 200's this year.

There's also the An Stor hostel in the centre of town and you can contact Kevin at mkos@o2.ie

looks like a nice balanced route http://ridewithgps.com/routes/907252 with a couple of decent climbs and a nice flat run to finish, will try to make this one I think.

I doubt you'll see it until the week of the event - he'll probably want to do a final routecheck the weekend beforehand to make sure none of the road signs have disappeared etc.

I'm new to all this audax business but hoping to make this my first of many!

What's the story with licences? I take it you need one to enter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,497 ✭✭✭moby2101

    Hey
    Thanks for posting the info..
I've never been further than 180 on the Ring Of Kerry, so really looking forward to doing this.

You do, but a Cycling Ireland Non Competitive Licence is fine. Otherwise you can get a 1-day Licence on the day for a very reasonable fee (might be only a fiver, but don't take my word for it). Hoping to get down for my first outing down South.

I have a feeling that since it not a race, CI are charging 10% of entry but I will drop them a line to double check.

Also, entry in the post, first Audax spin of the year.

Just a reminder folks that the closing date for entries is this Friday, 2nd March.

nice days cycling I expect :)

    I'm in.
Are people going to be taking this handy enough or hammering it around?
My chest is very dodgy at present, so I will be very happy if I get around in 10 hours on the bike.
Weather was looking nice, but forecast seems to be deteriorating a bit.

    Also

For those of us not from the area, can anyone recommend

    (1) A place to eat after the event - preferably trashy and highly calorific. (Curry, pizza, kebab etc etc)
    (2) Is there anywhere (pub/restaurant) etc, that wouldn't mind me changing into civvies in their toilets before the drive home.

    Thanks

I'll be arriving late afternoon with Paul and Eddie - I'd say it will be dinner at Sage if we get down in time for the early bird, and pints in Isaacs afterwards.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

I will only leave Kerry around 6ish, so hope to get in around 8.
I will see ye all for a sociable pint.

What times are people hoping to do this in so? Just so I can start worrying about trying desperatly to hang on for dear life!

Audax pace is usually fairly leisurely. Probably be mostly around 10 hours (including me, hopefully), and maybe a few faster, and another few slower. By the time CramCycle has stopped to have a philosophical discussion with all and sundry, and got lost a few times on the way, the rest of us may well be in the pub, or on the way home !

I'll be heading down fairly late, leaving Dublin around 7.30-8.00. Hopefully see ye for a bedtime pint. Cheers, LG

I'm annoyed I can't stay down tomorrow night, could probably murder a few scoops after it. The gaffer got tickets to see Man U play on Sunday so I said I'd cover for him (I'm on hols at the moment).

Wonderful day on the bike, ideal weather and a super route, particularly liked the returning route from Dungarvan, staying south of the N25 for lots of it. Well done and thanks to Kevin for superb organisation as ever.

Nice to meet so many boardsies out there today. Unfortunately I was a DNF after coming off near Lemybrien. Dromcarrig kindly came to Dungarvan and got me from the doctors. Murf85 and a couple of others hung around with me and some kind strangers brought me to the hospital. Absolutely smashing day, first day out in the shorts and wish I hadn't bothered with the gloves.

Superb day beautiful route. Stunning weather.

A big thank you to Karlmyson and Cantalach and their club-mates for inviting me to the group. A fantastic demonstration in terms of control and self restraint in terms of pacing.
It was a pleasure to ride with ye. After 200km, my legs felt fresh, and I think that says it all.

209 km at 27km avg is not shabby at all. If I hadn't punctured so much I reckon we would have made it back to Midleton about 90minutes earlier.

Lovely lunch in Hotel Minella in Clonmel.

Apologies for all of the punctures (four) and thanks to the lads for patience, humour and spare tubes. I guess the punctures are the fee for an otherwise fantastic day on the bike.

Capt, that gash looks nasty. Puts our punctures into perspective. Hope you get well soon. How did it happen might I ask.

    Good to finally meet Seve65.

Nasty looking cut Captain, hopefully it won't keep you out of action for too long.

I'd be lying if I said I noticed the gash before the torn Club gilet. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,460 ✭✭✭lennymc

bad luck captain. It looked like such a nice gilet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭karlmyson

Sorry to see that injury Captain. Hope you recover quickly.

ROK_ON, you are more than welcome. We had a superb group, greater than the sum of the parts. My word though, you were unlucky with punctures! There are days like that. My own doubler coming into Youghal shows the importance of carrying two tubes on these long ones. I should have been more attentive 'cos I'm aware of that stretch of road being dodgy. Super day altogether.

...and a return service for people too lazy to carry their ATM card the whole way?

Great route, great weather. I don't think I've enjoyed a day on the bike so much since last summer. Good to see so many people enjoyed it, I hope you'll all be back for Kevin's Three Rivers 300 in July...the roads are a little rougher but the scenery is even better.

Thanks to all who supported the event and hope you have a speedy recovery, Captain.

Excellent route, and fairly ideal weather. Thanks to Dromcarrig for organising, and to Paddy, Kurt, CramCycle and the other lads who pulled me along to the first Control, and later on approaching and leaving Ardmore. I fell off the pace with about 20km to go, which was no bad thing, as I was feeling a bit overcooked at that stage. Very enjoyable start to the season ! Commiserations to Cap'n Havoc, I'm sure he'll be back in the saddle in short order ! Cheers, LG

    Thanks for the photos.

Cycling to work in Surrey (forced out of Midleton by lack of work a couple of years back!) just isn't the same as around East Cork and West Waterford.
