Great stuff now I can watch all my favourite music videos in HD :)

    This is still 1991, isn't it? :D

I saw it yesterday and looked at the schedule. It has lots of stuff like Teen Cribs. How it ever evolved into what it is now I don't know.

No harm. SD MTV has dreadful picture quality. I'm not sure how much of their content would actually be in HD though.

Can blame that on all the teen moms in their teen cribs.

MTV used to feature music, when it launched. actual music with actual musicianship. aimed at adults and young adults hence the name music tv - but the times have changed.

They have many other MTV channels dedicated to 24 hour music.

Not sh*t sherlock just I can't defend the flagship 'music' tv. Nobody can.

They have several channels devoted to music but they are rubbish and only play a limited range of very commercial music.

Back in the good old days from 1987-1996 MTV Europe was exceptional, it was 1 channel 24 hours a day broadcasting throughout Europe, UK and Ireland. It featured every genre of music and all the sub-genre's contained within. Adverts were made up of great MTV animations and quirky adverts from all countries of Europe. The shows were presented by VJ's who really knew their music.
I still have fond memories of the following shows:

Headbangers ball - all genres of metal
Into the Pit - extreme metal
Post Modern - really good mix of music
120 minutes - decent and often obscure indie music
Party Zone - dance music, underground music and compilation videos
Club MTV - club music with people dancing from some american club
Chill Out Zone - late night ambient dance music with really good videos
Ray Cokes Most Wanted - brilliant and very funny show with Ray Cokes, live bands and general crazyness.
Beavis & Butthead - animated series spliced with decent bits of music
Many of the above shows would feature live performances and live tour specials from festivals and events around the world.
MTV At The Movies - really good cinema show

For one channel it showed way more variety of music than today's entire family of MTV Channels ever can. What a shame it's all over. The rot started when MTV divided its channels up regionally starting with MTV UK. The Day it changed I knew it was the beginning of the end and the quality has goten worse day by day ever since and now MTV is just a disgrace. MTV now also has a terrible presentation with on-screen junk cluttering the screens telling us what show we are watching, what show is on next week and what video is coming next amongst other things.

For me it refelcts not just the halycon days of music being over, but music itself seemingly being over and worthwhile stardom dead in the water. random geordie n single mom chavs there's something to aspire to eh.. the modern rock stars. Somebody has to fill the void I guess

They're hardly going to change their name because their most popular channel now shows different programming. It's the their brand name, the simply moved their music to other channels.

It's bleak man.. don't be ignorant to the past n delve in .. realize. Theres an entire latter 20th century archive at your disposal from which to pick and choose but if anything MTV should be a mix of its sub stations the company could set up an independent MTL if it wished. that's Modern Teen Living

Mtv, what can i say about it now only that it is rubbish.

I loved mtv europe from the early 90's, loved shows like partyzon,chill-out zone, alternative nation, really everything that was on it, even the ad breaks were brilliant, promos etc.

When mtv uk took over in 1997 i was raging, mtv uk was good though compared to now, but i soon got into satellite tv and bought a d2 mac decoder and dish for 1w and got it back in june 98, put then it was replaced with mtv nordic, which was a complete copy with different adds and a nordic chart, and then it moved to 5e, needeed a bigger dish at the time, so that was that.

Then i got a sub for upc hungry were mtv europe was on on 19.2 e.
Mtv europe was one of the only mtv's in europe aswell as mtv adria that stuck to its original programming, but when the channel was moved to poland in 2008 that soon changed and in augut 2010 they dropped all the long running mtv europe shows like partyzone, superock ect for teen mom etc etc.

I dont understand why they dont have a channel like mtv europe accross europe like the good old days, because each country has there own mtv , but they just show reality crap.

Not all countries have mtv dance, hits, base with there regional mtv, + mtv europ could be aimesd at more mature adults like it was instead of young teenagers who are in fairyland.

My guess is that they're now showing their reality crap instead of music, so it's been moved to the Entertainment section like the main MTV channel.

agreed there should be a pan-european MTV across the board in all countries to go along with the current profile of crap MTV channels. Even disregarding the crap content why did MTV drop all their cool animations and instead offer a bland logo, no fun and boring advertisments similiar to all other UK and Irish stations. It's like as if the board of directors got together and came up with a plan to make their channel as boring as possible in every way.Nowadays we have to rely on Youtube to find interesting music but the problem with that is there is so much good stuff out there but you have to know what your looking for so it's much more difficult to find decent music wheras MTV Europe constantly kept the viewer updated with everything.

The only channels now offering a decent alternative are channels like Skuzz and Sky Arts.

Agree. Are channels not ment to get better not worse over the years, they are just like the rest of the uk channels.

Even the european channels are gone the same.
There is a channel called mtv music, which was european showing 24 hour videos, then mtv uk started there own mtv music, so i think the european one was changed to mtv 24, you can get it on sky uk, but will store in other channels, it still had all the old mtv europe animations between each video, but had no ad breaks.

Some Europeans do still get MTV Music and it is different to what is available in Ireland and the UK. It's definitely available in Austria anyway

It is to be re-branded in April to MTV Live, which exists pretty much everywhere except for here, the UK and Brazil
