CD Rom drive missing after uninstalling norton

My Norton anti-virus was up and I had to go out to PC World and buy a new edition of it to install as I don't have a credit card to re-new it online. I was advised by the sales person to delete the old version of norton on the pc before I install the new CD. I deleted norton in 'control panel' > 'uninstall or change program'. It asked me to restart my computer.

When it restarted it and put the cd in, the CD Rom drive is missing from My Computer. It was there before I un-installed. How do I get it back? Can someone help me?

    I'm using windows 7.

Thanks for your help in advance.

    why buy an av program?

Microsoft Security Essentials is free and works just as good if not better than norton?

make sure your cd rom drive cables are connected properly inside the pc...

Thanks. I'm using a laptop. I don't trust the microsoft program by itself. The CD Drive was working before I un-installed Norton because I was using it earlier this morning. This just happened when I removed Norton so I'm guessing Norton deleted something vital from my laptop when it uninstalled.

Quite a common problem, usually fixed this way. Have a go anyways

For future reference Norton is ALOT less secure then Microsoft. Norton is bloatware, if you dont like microsoft you can go avast, sophos etc... there are tonnes of really good solutions that are alot better.

Now as for you CDROM drive windows shouldve installed it again but it should be easy to recover.

    Click Start,
    Click Control Panel
If in Category View goto Hardware and Sound and click Add a device and let it scan.

It should find your drive click it and with some luck it will get the relevant driver installed.

And again stay clear of norton.
