Car beyond selling, what should I do

I have a 98 Scenic. It is dinged and scraped all round and it barely starts.

I've not tried but I don't think ill be able to sell it to anyone. I can't afford to pay someone to scrap it for me. Is this the only way to scrap a car? Do you always have to pay to have it scraped?

Baring leaving it to rot in my driveway is there any way to get rid of it?

I would like it to be legal and good for the environment!

    Thanks all for the help!!

Does it drive? Does everything essential work? Has it a current NCT?

Stick it on donedeal for small money. Somebody will buy it, even for €50. I don't know why, but there is always somebody out there who will buy a banger!

It just about drives. It has a month or two left on the nct, but I can't see it passing again. It's throwing out a big dirty cloud of black smoke every time I go near the accelerator. Bits are coming loose all over the place and the body work is in a rag state.

It says a lot about the effectiveness of the NCT for ensuring cars are road worthy! As said above stick it on Donedeal and somebody wil take it off your hands even if its for nothing! At least it wouldn't cost you to anything to get rid!

Could you not flog it to a breaker's yard, I'm sure there are a few parts on the car that still work and would come in useful to people who need them.

The black smoke might mean it just needs a service and tune up; someone might take it off you like has been said.

Post up a pic, maybe someone here will :) My battered 96 Micra is a testament that some people will drive anything (although I have a couple of bikes that make it bearable) :D

Thanks for all the help lads. I think I'll bung it up on done deal and try to flog it!

Might get enough to pimp out the new car with spinning hub caps or furry dice or something.

It's worth about €150 per tonne, scrap. At the very worst you will get someone to take it off your hands, without charge, to scrap it. You will not have to pay anyone to get rid of it.

If you are scrapping it, make sure you inform the council, to prevent someone putting the registration back into circulation and landing you with unearned fines.

Try the local fire brigade who may be looking for scrap cars to train with.

Be careful if you sell it that all the paperwork is done properly, otherwise you could end up with toll fines, speeding fines, parking fines etc. as somebody might just buy it for an illegal untaxed uninsured runaround until they're caught.
