Clarification on commercial to private issues for car van

After a few searches and some research I'm still confused. Some help/advice needed.
I want to buy a car-van to use for private use, for example the one below.
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Citroen/C4/1.6HDI-V/413207723659440/advert?channel=CARS

I want to change its tax class from commercial use to private use and tax it for private use. All above board. I just want a small van with good mpg and easy to drive to and from work(long distant) and be handy to transport my bike.

The fact the van has been taxed and used as a commercial all its life will I encounter some trouble when trying to tax it privately. I know I need to change my current insurance as its on a private car so I cant just transfer it over.
Will I need to continue to have the van doe tested every year if I'm using it for private use and taxing it accordingly?
Is there any issues with VRT when changing the vans tax class?

Once its a van it needs a DOE regardless of classification

As long as it stays a van no VRT is payable.

So i will need a DOE test each year for taxing it privately. If the DOE has just been done before I purchase it do I need a DOE test done again because I'm a new owner?
I'm looking for a car van in the 2 to 5k bracket for driving up and down to Dublin and transporting my bike to races etc. What would be a good buy?

Once the body type isn't changed then there is no effect on VRT etc.

I've recently done this and I just went into the tax office(when the commercial tax was up) with the log book, paid the private tax rate(always cc based, regardless of the year) and got the log book back a week or so later with the taxation class changed from goods to private.

An annual test is required, once it's tested it's valid for one year irrespective of when or by whom it's tested

Does that mean it no longer needs a DOE but would have to get an NCT straight away?

Berlingo or Partner would be better as you can put a bike (or two) in standing upright without taking off the wheels, where as a car derived van like that C4 you will probably have to take one wheel off but will have to lay the bike flat- unless you have a small frame size. A Berlingo will have extra room for spares etc and are still good on juice

No it still needs to be DOE'd as its still a van. If it has a current DOE then this is not effected.

Commercials need a DOE whether taxed privately or not.
