Caliper guide pins - best grease to use?

    Looking to know the best grease to use on the caliper guide pins(slider pins). There are a lot of different greases out there some say silicone grease is best others say copper grease is good.

    Toyota say lithium soap grease.

    What is the best and easy to find.

    Always used copper grease on any brake components; never had an issue.

    What are the slider pins running in?
    Rubber does not like Copper grease.
    It goes all soft and turns to shyte.
    If Toyota specify a grease type maybe you should follow their advice?

    Happens a good bit on Transits, I just take out the slide rub them down on the bench grinder(wire brush side) and spray in a bit of WD40 into the hole of the caliper carrier and then rub copper grease on the slide itself. No issues with that.

    Yeah we use lithium soap grease now, used to use copper grease but this is a far superior grease

    You can use either really. Lithium grease can cope with higher temperatures, so is better suited to brakes.

    Its fine for sliders when they are sealed by the rubber boots but copper grease is much more water resistant which is why its better for using on the exposed pads.

    My car has the rubber boots. Can you tell me where i can pick up some of this grease.

    I am having problems with my caliper and i think it might be the slider pins stuck.
    I have had the caliper removed and it wound back in and out ok. Now strange thing is that it wound back in anti clock wise and the other side was clockwise its the new shape corolla rear driver side with the problem pad on the outside is wearing out faster.

    I have not removed them yet. I didn't check seal on piston my mechanic was looking at the caliper for me.
    my car is 2007 toyota corolla 1.4 d-4d with 116k klms on the clock. Just changed discs and pads all round.

    I have checked the caliper and all seems fine car wind back with not too much effort and slide pins look ok no corrosion but has groves on one of them weather they are normal or the cause of rubbing i am not sure.

    Priced up caliper main dealer only no motor factor can get them and its €345 including vat and the slider pin is €37 including vat.

    I priced the same things in uk dealership for €230 delivered including vat.

    The car from 12/06 to present as its the new shape same as auris setup.
    Motor factors think they can get parts but when they do its for the old shape corolla so it only the main dealer.

    Any advice on what i can do. With grease on the pins the weekend the car is still not releasing fully the car when reversing is grinding and now for a small bit after braking to stop grinds even when driving straight. Can anyone advise on what to do? I have heard of the brake pipe collapsing causing calipers to stick a small bit which is kind of what is happening to me.
    Can anyone advise what to do in my case?

    Late update as of wedding and plans with that also holiday.

    I replaced the brake pipe connected to caliper and still the same. So now i will have to get a new rear caliper as I dont seem to have any other options.

    The rubbers are not there as a repair kit for the caliper so it looks like a new one from uk as its cheaper.

    Having the same problem in the past i would advice you to buy second hand caliper - 30/40 euro at scrap yard... Spending that much on caliper is waste of money imo... Buying from Uk - if it didn't fit, you will pay a lot for sending it back. Made that mistake, and caliper is lying on the shelf now. Got one from scrap yard, and problem sorted.

    I was thinking of getting a secondhand one but then when i tried to find one it was hard and also when I did they wanted €120 and if I paid that and it turned out like the one I have now then its almost not worth it. As for uk one its a main dealer who took my chassis number to quote me and if it is wrong then they have a very bad system but I can ship it back to them at a discount with fedex so not too bad.

    Price from uk is €211

    Thanks saw this site before but costs are ex vat and a surcharge until you send back unit which is 15 + vat and the shipping is 14.95 +vat so it ends up around €180 as you would not return old one as it would cost more to ship it back then what you would get back. Also they dont have any in stock of these for over 6 months.

    Have a look there. I dealt with them before and found them very proffesional.
    The reason mine didn't fit was because of manufacturer making two types for the same model. If you give them a call they will sort you for 75 pounds delivered, if they have them in stock. Worth a shot.
    All the units are reconditioned -with new seals, and painted. look like new.

    Is the one from UK (the one for 210E) new as new, or reconditioned unit?

    The €210 is for main dealer in uk new price delivered to ireland sourced part with chassis number.

    Well, if you are happy with this price, then go for it. At least it is guaranteed to fit, and you save yourself hassle with refunds and returns.
    Not bad price for a new one delivered.

    OT Amazing that dealership in Ireland is looking for 345E for the same part. Nice profit on parts - i bet they source them from the very same place.
