I'm having an issue with a printer that's acting up. Running XP Pro. The printer's a HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One machine. For whatever reason, it stopped working...couldn't cancel jobs, they'd just sit there. I tried starting/stopping in services.msc, I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, restarting the computer 5-6 times, but without success. The 'found new hardware wizard' prompt comes up, but that's not proving helpful, either.

Have you tried printing using another PC or laptop? That will indicate if it's a problem on the PC or Printer.

If the issue is on the PC end, HP have a driver removal utility on their support site for most of their printers which is much better than a normal uninstall.

Try removing your printer driver with this utility, and download and re-install using the latest install file which can be found on the HP support site.

Thanks, I take it this is the tool you mean? I've let it run there now. The printer is still listed in Start>Progams>HP, though.

A greyed out version of the printer is still in Printers and Faxes and it's been there for 2 says, still days 'deleting'.

I'm not sure what version of the software to get. There's the basic one or the larger suite that's about 400 MB, which I had installed before. Link

I'll try installing the printer on a Win 7 laptop.

Got it working again, but it does seem to go bananas every few months. Uninstalled/reinstalled, was still a bit iffy, but worked eventually. It's connected via a 4 way USB thing and I wonder if it's sometimes a bit temperamental. I've tried printing from my Mac (in another room) and it wasn't co-operating, despite usually doing so, the 'remote document' seemed to just hang there in the queue and not print. The light on the printer would flash and the screen said 'printing', but nothing was happening. Cleared the queue and it printed as normal from the XP machine. Will probably abandon printing from the Mac and use a USB stick and print from the files on it.
