    Hi all
I am a female, 28 and at Easter want to go away for a week (alone as my marriage has just broken up)
I was going to do a gap adventures tour to Turkey.
Is this safe at the moment? Are there issues/security and safety concerns there at the moment?
    Thanks a million

There are no issues in turkey that I know of at the moment. I felt safe in Turkey and if you can cope with the hassle you will get in the Grand Bizare (people wanting you to buy things, come and look at their stuff etc) you will be fine.

I did a trip with On the go tours that went to Pumukuale (?sp), Ephesus, Kusa dasi and then the gallapoli pennisula. Honestly, I didn't really like the tour compared to others that I have done. It was very scripted in that we ate at specific resturants, visited specific shops etc. No free time at all to explore. So I would look carefully at the itinerary and what it involves. Also if you can, make sure you visit the Cappadocia region - i did this independently and it is spectacular. If the budget allows, go hot air ballooning....incredible.

If Easter is your time you should be fine, however later in April (the 25th to be exact) is ANZAC day. This is the memorial day for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who landed at Gallipoli in the first world war. If you go at this time and dont check the tour itinerary carefully you could end up on a tour full of Aussies and Kiwis and spend the better part of two days at Gallipoli (including sleeping out over night) when I (presume) you are Irish and it would hold very little interest for you. However as GAP are a Canadian company they might not do as many ANZAC tours, so it might be ok (double check anyway!)

The UK foreign office website is pretty useful for travel advisors, although they can seem a little dramatic, but you can always check what they're saying by having a trawl on news websites too.
