Jonah Lomu needs another Kidney Transplant

Really sad to hear Jonah Lomu is having serious problems again. Fingers crossed things work out for him.

Never seen anyone have as big an impact on a Tournament as Lomu in the 1995 Rugby World Cup, he was an amazing player.

Former All Blacks winger Jonah Lomu has said he needs a new kidney transplant and has lost 30kg since September.
Lomu, who scored 37 tries in 63 Tests for New Zealand between 1994 and 2002, had a first organ transplant in 2004 but the kidney stopped functioning in October 2011.

The 36-year-old has recently been having dialysis for 21 hours each week.
"Nothing has made any difference - the next step is to try to find a donor," he told New Zealand Woman's Weekly .
"I know I was fortunate to get the first transplant but there are more difficulties this time around.
"The match will be harder and the process of finding a suitable donor is difficult. The chances of my body rejecting this kidney are higher too.
"I'm really lucky - I've already lived more in one lifetime than many would in six or seven lifetimes. The thing about being human is that everybody has to die sometime.

"For me, the important thing is to ask 'can you look in the mirror and say you done everything to enjoy life?"'
Lomu was diagnosed with the kidney disorder nephrotic syndrome in 1995.

I can't put into words the respect I have for this man. A true legend on and off the pitch and an incredibly brave and intelligent man, I wish him all the best.

The sports first real (and possibly only) superstar that transcended the boundaries of the sport the world over.

Sad to hear this - I hope things improve. You can't fault his attitude to life though.

Probably more of a medical forum question but does having kidney disorder nephrotic syndrome mean his kidneys will keep continually degenerating?

How long can you live on dialysis?

While it's good he doesnt seem to hodl any fear in what lies ahead, you never like to hear people talking as if they wont see the far side of this.

On BBC breakfast just now Richard Pitman was talking about how he was set to donate a kidney to a friend, but the friend didnt want it so he donated it to the public pool. Amazing thing to do. Carry a donor card and might do it for a family member myself (if I liked them :), but thats some public service.

How big would your kidney need to be to donate to the man!? Best of everything to him.
