Someone just called to my door saying sky will be offering their HD channels free at the end of the month but they charge 60euro to set it up.
Didnt ask them if they worked for Sky. Just laughed in their faces. Im sure I could get it done for 20 euro elsewhere

    Current install price is €30.

We've had reps telling people that the HD charge is being dropped since last year.First it was Summer, then Christmas and no it's Spring.
Sky are making too much money every month from HD to drop the charge.Only believe the charge is being dropped when Sky themselves write to you.

@FIRE, the F1HD channel is free to HD subscribers. You don't need to subscribe to Sky Sports to get it.HD sub is €15 a month.

Thanks zerks, what i seen on that F1 link was,

    Already a Sky TV customer?

Option 1. Irish Sky TV customers can upgrade to a free Sky+HD box (€30 standard set-up) or Sky Sports - now with ESPN included. Simply call 0818 762 832

Didnt see mention of HD pack.

I remember my father holding tight and refusing to get sky plus until the extra charge was gone, think €10 at the time. Do you think the HD pack would get rid of it soon? I wont go for HD until it is gone. I dont think the €15 is worth IMO

When you click on the "legal bit" you will see this (I've highlighted the relevant part)
Existing customer Sky+HD box offer: Free Sky+HD box when you upgrade to the HD Pack. Offer excludes existing Sky+HD households. Existing customers must agree to new 12 month minimum term for Sky TV. One free box per household. Sky+HD box up to €199 if you are not eligible for a free box (Sky TV subscription required). €30 standard set-up fee applies.

HD pack is going to stay €15 a month for a while yet,Sky have around 4 million customers on the HD pack. That's a lot of money they are pulling in every month.

I have HD along with Sky World and on a good large screen tv the quality is excellent,I wouldn't revert to SD again.

If you are a long term Sky customer try and push them for a deal (the mention of UPC can sometimes grease the wheels) and you might get lucky.

Remember if you do get the HD pack it automatically ties you into another 12 month contract.
Also, Sky are now offering the 1tb box for €49,only a few months ago they cost €249.Install cost may be extra, usually €30 but can be dependent on the package you choose or whoever is on the other end of the line when you phone Sky.

Thanks Muffler and Dammmmn youuuuuuuu!!!!!!!! :D

Thought I would finally be able to get HD without subs.

@Zerks, ive been waying up the pros cons about getting into a new 12 month contract with sky. I was gonna go with getting the sports, but then realised that the 12th was coming up and so I waited until that to see if a good deal was coming.

I will just try get the sports and see about HD while I'm on to them. :)
