Hello, having a major laptop meltdown and I could really do with some help.

    Using a Toshiba L450 4gig laptop with win7.
On Saturday I was waking the laptop from sleep andI got a message saying there was a compatability issue or something (sorry for the vagueness), and my taskbar default to a basic one. The computer then froze completely. I forced apower down through the power button, and since then, if I go to start it, it hangs on the black windows starting page every time. If I try and run a start up repair, a blank defalt wallpaper appears, and thereis only the pointer on the screen. I cant right click or task manage to call up any controls.
When I run a start up in any of the safe modes, it cycles through the drivers, and always stops at the atipcie.sys driver. A google of that reveals a host of similar problems, but I cant find any resolutions.
Obviously I am really hoping to be able to save the content:D
*Possible back story, 2 weeks ago Itunes frooze on launce every time and I had to shut it down through the task manager. I eventually got it working in compatability mode. I dont know how/if this is relevent.

Any help at all would be really appreciated.

    Jim

I would look into running a memory/hard disk diagnostics for starters. you can find these diagnostic utilities on Ultimate Boot CD. I would reccomend Seatools for Dos for the hard disk diagnostic scan and Memtest86+ for the memory scan.
You simply download the UltimateBootCD .iso file, burn it to a cd using something like imgburn, then booting off the disc as if to install an os

Thanks for the reply. Would it be possibletodo the above but with a flash drive instead? It would just be easier as my backup is a netbook. If I have to get access to a disk drive I will.
