Recommendation for holiday destination in France

Thinking of booking a holiday in France this year. Ferry from Rosslare to Cherbourg and then somewhere within max. four hours drive.

    What's important to me?
    1. Seaside
    2. Small town with market, restaurants etc
    3. Will rent a house, not into camping
    4. Family holiday, so not looking for wild night life
    5. Prefer a stylish/upmarket spot, not too crowded
    6. Arty is good
    7. Don't want to be dependent on using the car every day. Happy to potter about by foot, so don't want somewhere out in the countryside

    Any suggestions?

The island of Ile de Re off La Rochelle which has a main town and plenty beaches

or La Rochelle itself but no immediate beach.

Aquarium in La Rochelle is best I've seen since Sydney.

La Palmyre Zoo is a another good day trip.

Don't know how much the ferry costs but flying Dublin to Nice for less than 1K for four return, staying in or around Antibes / Juan les pins

    Ticks all of your box's
