The high flying presenters are on Weekdays,
and the up and coming, or out to pasture presenters are on at the Weekends?
    or overnights

Is this the way of things?

What is the worst slot... Sunday 6am?

Starting with the least desirable slot from a hierarchy point of view:

    • over night at weekends
    • followed by over nights during the week
    • Then weekend breakfast
    • followed by weekend midmorning
    • then night time (after 7pm) at the weekend
    • followed by early evening at the weekend
    • the afternoon at the weekend
    • Followed by night time during the week
    • then weekday drivetime
    • weekday afternoon
    • midmorning and finally king of the heap I'd put weekday breakfast.

Someone tell Marian! The weekend mid morning slots are definitely seen as prestige hours now.

we should seperate the "weekend" into Saturday (good) and Sunday (bad)

Speaking of slots, Pat Kenny will turn 65 in about two years time, will he hang up his Mic?

And if so, who'll get the gig, or will RTE use the opportunity to reorganise the schedule?

Tbh, they (RTE R1) shouldn't be hanging around for another two years, or indeed for Pat Kenny to decide whether to retire or not, to reshuffle the pack. The morning-early afternoon schedule during the week has two glaring holes in it either side of the Kenny Show that need instant re-boots.

John Murray on the 9-10 slot and Ronan Collins trying to squeeze a music show into a very truncated hour (while trying to accommodate The Bells, a Nuacht bulletin, weather forecast and a monotonous Joe Duffy promo.) after 12 are simply not working.

The argument for "something light" after Morning Ireland could be accommodated by extending the MI slot to 9:30. Then putting in a "Sunday Miscellany" type or other magazine piece programme to fill that half hour rather than having someone like Murray, who simply doesn't cut the mustard with his forced jollity, on air.

Kenny would probably welcome an extra 15 minutes after 12 o'clock, then after he wraps up break for An Nuacht, weather and Duffy's plug. Bringing (an obviously) re-titled "News at One" forward to a 12:30 start giving that programme an hour of airtime.

Joe Duffy can devote an extra quarter-hour to his whingefest at no extra "fee" (or he can feck off) or alternately take on an hour long show with instructions to stay off his personal agenda and get Liveline back on track.

Mid afternoon, (either from 2:30 or 3) could be devoted to a light/m-o-r music prog. presented by Ronan Collins or Cathal Murray until 5 when the "serious" news can crank up again.

Saturday & Sunday mornings are quite high rating periods. If you look at Paul Eastons blog http://pauleaston.blogspot.com/ on London listening by time of day (weekdays, Saturday & Sunday) you will see that some stations do quite well at night and during the weekends. It all depends if you have something that people want to listen to.

I like the feck off suggestion
