    I asked in the Galway branch recently, think it was in the first couple of weeks of January. I was told that they'd be out of stock for a while then come back in a lot more expensively than before. They used to be about the cheapest place to get them.

    Reason given for interval followed by price rise was the environmental disaster in Japan.
    Subsequently can't tell how permanent the price rise would be. Have been told it's across the board with memory units from various retail outlets for the time being.

    Did see that Maplin had 3TB externals pretty cheap shortly after though. about 130Eur. Offer may be over now though.

    Not quite correct but the same effect, it was floods in Thailand which knocked out lots of factories which manufacture hard disk drives and because they all involve clean rooms, it wll take longer for them to resume production than if it was regular factory assembly of things like radios.

    was wondering if anybody had a clear idea of when this was likely to be.
    Real drag that price rise.
    But there do still seem to be at least some cut price deals in Maplin & possibly PCWorld, not sure of other places.

    Was surprised to find on looking yesterday that they do have the full range back in . & from what I can remember they were USB 3.
    1tb = €99
    & I think 2tb was €129 and there was a 3rd item that was €139. Though could be this was 2tb in USB 2 + 3, though why they'd be getting fresh supplies of USB 2s in when USB 3s have been released I dunno. Would think that after the break (5months) they would have sold out of whatever backlog supplies of the earlier model they had had wherever i.e. old warehouse stock or whatever. Will take another look later but good news anyway.

    Haven't checked out what's in the stores at Wellpark yet -PCWorld/Maplins but would assume that they would have a better supply than Eason's. & they frequently have deals on though Eason's does tend to be cheaper on harddrives for the last few years.

    Right, been into Eason's again. All 3 Seagates they have are USB 3. & the prices are
    standard 1TB = €99
    portable 1TB = €129
    2TB = €139

    That seems like great value, paid about €140 for a USB 2 2tb iomega one the other day on scan :( . Needed a new mouse though so made sense to order both at the same time :) . Great price for a b&m though

    I was in Wellpark today so I checked out supplies of Harddrives. Looks like Maplins has the same deal as Easons on the 1Tb. I assumed it was 3 USB but didn't look as thoroughly.
    Think their 2TB was a lot more expensive though

    PCWorld's biggest display for a hard drive was a 2TB USB2 for €169
