How long to get bags, clear customs at Dublin T2

Hi all, I will be arriving in Dublin Terminal 2 during the morning which I think is a busy time at Dublin Airport. I will be arriving from the US. Does anybody know how long in general does it take to clear passport control, get the checked luggage and clear customs? I am looking at an estimate like would be over or under an hour.

Also I can't find any information on whether terminal 2 has pay phones or not. My cell will not work in Ireland and I will have to make a couple of calls when I arrive. If they do have payphones are they coin or card operated? If they are card operated will I be able to pick up a card at the airport.

Lastly I just want to make sure that its fairly easy to get a taxi once I get out of the terminal? I was also wondering how much would a taxi cost to get me approx 4 miles from the airport. I heard some stories about the cabbies ripping people off so I want to be prepared.

Anybody that can give me informaiton will be greatly appreciated

There'll be no problem getting a taxi on arrival - just follow the signs.

You can use http://www.worldtaximeter.com/ to estimate the taxi charge (note that it's only an estimate, and heavy traffic, for example, could add to the charge). Make sure you get a receipt at the end of the journey (which will have the taxi number on it), and if you think you've been hard done by later you can make a complaint to the taxi regulator - http://taxiregulation.nationaltransport.ie/for-users/

I'm afraid I don't know how long immigration and baggage collection will take. Payphones in Ireland, particularly in places like airports often accept coins or credit cards. I'd expect there are payphones in Terminal 2, but couldn't swear to it.

If you have an Irish passport then you basically just walk through customs, I went through in the morning a few months ago coming from the US as well, but I have a US passport and I was waiting for quite some time to go through customs. Probably 30-35 + minutes plus however long it takes to get your bags. I usually figure on about an hour from the time the plane lands to getting outside the door. If you are lucky it could take less, but I would give yourself an hour, and there are payphones in T2.

Also, I guess I don't know your destination, but the Airlink bus took me all the way to Heuston Station for 6 quid, which is the furthest point. But there are quite a few drop off places on the way if you are just headed in a specific direction it could be better than a cab.

A lot less than an hour. 30 mins, 40 at a push. If you get held up at passport control (unlikely) your bag will be already on the belt or nearly there when you get into the baggage hall, there is virtually no customs and you're free to go.

There's pay phones in the arrivals hall and I'm almost certain the baggage hall too.

Taxi's - When you're in the arrivals hall keep walking straight and they're then down the escalator to your right when you go through the tunnel, it's well signposted.

Thanks all for the helpful response. I will have to go to Lissenhall in swords to collect my dog so and I am going to meet my ride there because it is way easier. Thanks for the taxi calculator itll be a great help.

Just beware that you might get a "grumpy" reaction from the taxi driver for "only" going as far as Lissenhall. If s/he starts any of that rubbish tell them you're taking note of the taxi number and will be making a complaint to the taxi regulator.

maybe I'd better wait until I am in the car before I tell him where I have to go!

    Thanks for the tip.
