    Hi
I really stupidly sprayed anti static foam on my own keyboard & a Macbook
The Macbook kept scrolling down the pages so left it to dry out overnight.
Now it wont even turn on. Is their any way I can get the laptop to turn on or can I get her stuff off it & on to my Mac.

    Many thanks in advance.

    See http://www.glodark.com/spilt_liquid.htm

If the MacBook won't turn on, the only way to extract files is to remove the Hard Drive.

Tip: antistatic foam is intended to be sprayed onto a cloth for gently applying to the screen only.

What are the ingredients of the anti-static foam? If it contains any electrolytes you may have fried something.

In any case, keep the Macbook stored in rice in a warm area for a day or two and see if it works after that. If not, getting the files off the Macbook should be trivial. It's as simple as removing a few screws and buying a cable off EBay.

I think I know the one. That stuff should never have been used on live equipment, it's mostly water with foaming agents and surfactants. A bad combo for any electronic equipment.

In any case, all hope is not lost. Try the rice idea first and see if that doesn't work.

If it doesn't, post back here and i'll tell you what you need to do to recover the HDD.

Surely you need to know WHICH MacBook he has? Or are the aluminium-body ones identical to the plastic ones?

The best way to do it is to put the laptop in an oven tray overnight in an oven (With the oven switched OFF obviously!). Keep the laptop as submerged as possible in rice and try and switch it on the next morning. If it's one of the older Macbooks, take the battery out too.

Would be interested to know what cable to get...
