I own a seagate 2tb external drive. The USB slot broke off the Raptor V2R1 main board, its no longer under warranty.
Could someone advise me what type of lead i need to get. I want to connect from hard drive to pc, it uses its own power source.

Any help would be much appreciated.

open up the case then remove the drive and put in to your pc

the drive itself is a sata drive so you'll need a sata cable to connect it to your motherboard inside the pc

Depending on the enclosure you have, it may be possible to get a cable to just do the data connection, using the power supply in your case. But the arrangement of the plugs may not allow this, so your prob better off getting something with its own power. E.g. :
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/USB-2-0-IDE-SATA-3-5-2-5-Hard-Drive-Cable-M-Power-/180695322602?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item2a1247cfea

Or you can buy a new enclosure if you are averse to wires and leads not being tidy.

I dont care either way! i'm guessing a straight forward sata to usb is not possible as there is some circuitry involved. i looked at some power and sata kits. i will go with one of them if the enclosure is too expensive.

    Thanks for your help.
