Hi guys, ive looking at rifles for some tme now and have chosen to buy a .223 for foxing/targets.
Ive discarded the .204 idea due to no reloading over here.
Ive it pretty much narrowed down to either

    Tikka tactical 24" barrell,
    sako 85 varmint laminate stainless,

The main difference would be that the sako is a 6 month wait and does not come screwcut.
I also have noticed very little difference in the super varmint and the tactical other than the phosfate finish,
and the 24" barrel being screwcut on the tactical.
Again the super varmint would be a 6 month wait and around 400 euros less.
Any advice guys much appreciated im a little confused at the minute,
    atb john

I cant see much difference in the supervarmint and the tactical either other than the finish.
Good 204 ammo is available so you dont have to reload for it.
I know a dealer in Donegal that had a new 223 supervarmint with the 24in barrel for sale.
I can send you his number if you want.

Go for the tactical, I think Poulo had one. I handled Tikkamarks tactical, people say they're heavy, they're not, handles well IMO and looks good too. I saw three foxes shot with it that night, and more another night, I was ever sorry I didn't get one instead of the pos varmint I had.

i'd say if reloading was allowed you would have had the varmint shooting well but as ever in ireland were not allowed.
Im going to look at a tactical next week ,
is the remmy you have now a keeper?

The remmy is a keeper for what I use it for, shooting foxes, greycrows, magpies etc.

I'll sell it eventually when I get my .243 built, but until then it's the gun I'll keep above all others. It IS heavy though, weighs in at just over a stone.

I picked up the sako hunter 85 varmint last week. It was a bueaty but not in the caliber i was looking for. Only fault to it was its weight was too much for me. Sako is the best imo but that one weighed alot. It seemed heavier than my remmy fully kitted out with bipod, moderator and sight and the remmy i have would be the or one of the heaviest models of remmys out there so i can just imagine how much heavier the sako would be when its kitted out. But sako is built for everlasting performance i recon. Sako is very well built rifle

I've used the Sako 85 Varmint stainless in .243 and it is one beautiful rifle. Six months is a long wait but worth it in my opinion.

I have a 75 varmint in .223 its the blued walnut version, i love it and it shoots way better than i can and shoots nearly all ammo accurately but it is heavy, they are a class above tikka having the different action and magazine sizes and nicer stocks and a steel bold shroud but every tikka i've used shoots as well as a sako at a lot less cost, so all depends what sort of quality u want, similar to splashing out on extras on a car, it'll drive d same but looks better
