Other then Aer Lingus are there any other airlines that fly from Dublin to Orlando or even Miami ?

I know that Monarch used to a couple of years ago using their A332 but that was two or more years ago.

Also from past experience would it be cheaper to fly to the UK then onto the US ?

Nope, but whatever you decide to do remember that if you fly Dublin-Orlando you clear customs and immigration in Dublin, if you go via the UK you do it over there.

Flew over to Orlando last year with virgin from EGLL and including the cost of a flight to heaththrow to make the connection, it worked out cheaper than a direct flight with Aer lingus from Dublin.

As mentioned though had to go through clearance once I got there but that is'nt much of a problem to be honest.

Well belfast in the only other place that you can fly to orlando from the island. It is seasonal and operated by monarch also. And yes it would be cheaper to fly direct from the uk. However if you fly with continential it is much cheaper. I would fly with continential anyday rather than flying back east to add another hour to my flight. Even with the connection continential would probably still be quicker.

Flying with Virgin does interest me, mainly because I'd love to fly on a 747 before the A380 and 787 dominate the skies in a few years time.

Probably won't be going for at least another 9 months but just getting an idea on prices and that now. :)

I would fly virgin if I were you because ba are a rip off they charge over the top prices. You could get similar service with virgin for half the price at times.

I am doing this in June.

Dub - Gatwick with aerlingus, then virgin onwards.

Two adults, two kids, car, hotel (15 nights), ONE ticket, €2999. This was in the touramerica sale in the Red Cow before christmas.

When I checked the aerlingus flights alone, they were coming in at over €2000 euro alone.

Yes, it would be nice to fly direct and walk straight off over there, but the price was prohibative. This way I am getting more bang for my buck - I need it due to the price of the park tickets :eek:

There is a cracking thread HERE about orlando. Have a look, its a wealth of information.

Let us know how you get on, I am trying to get as much info as possible.

Monarch did have a direct friday morning service to Sanford Orlando. Never flew to there but when pricing flights it was a good bit cheaper than aer lingus to Orlando Intl. That was 2 years ago and i dont know if they still operate that route.

If you had of booked you flights during the Aer Lingus summer sale about 2 weks ago you would of got a good deal. Would expect another sale in March so mabye you should hold off a bit

US airways to from DUB - PHL with a connecting flight to MIA or MCO usually come is among the cheapest but don't expect much in the way of modern in flight entertainment.

I go to Orlando at least twice a year and I have explored all the options.

DUB-PHL-MCO with US Airways is probably the cheapest, however as another poster said, its cheap, cheerful and no personal in flight entertainment on the atlantic flight and none at all on the internal flight. Alternative flight through Charlotte, but thats an 8 hour flight from Dublin.

DUB-EWR-MCO with Continental. Early flight out of Dublin, gets into Newark at 11am, connecting flight can have you in Orlando by 4pm. Good in flight entertainment and decent food. Good value for money.

DUB-ATL-MCO with Delta. Havnt flown with them in a few years, but the Atlanta leg is an 8 hour flight. Alternative option going through New York. Prices can be reasonable at times.

    DUB-ORD-MCO with American Airlines......NEXT!

DUB-LGW/MAN-MCO with Virgin. Gatwick or Manchester in shabby 747's because they are the bucket and spade routes full of chavs. Dont expect much in terms of food and drink, plus the inflight entertainment is problematic. Have a look at the terrible reviews on airlinequality.com

DUB-MCO with Aer Lingus. 8-9 hour direct flight, arrives in domestic terminal as it clears immigration in Dublin. Im a fan of Aer Lingus, although can be a bit expensive at times. Decent in flight entertainment.

When people say cheap how cheap is the flight to phl? I'm sure you'd be fine with fold down ptvs it's better than nothing and the flight is only 6 hours..

Well if you are going with Virgin from London remember to wear a suit, I got bumped up to business class just by dressing the part and cheekily asking at check in.

That said the 747 was practically deserted when I flew with them so they had plenty of seats available.

If you don't ask you wont receive. :D

What day of the week was that?

Im going on a friday morning in June so the uk kids will still be in school.

    Hopefully it will be quiet.

Do Aer Lingus fly direct to Orlando, checking the website it says Dub to Jfk and Jet Blue Airlines to Orlando ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,529 ✭✭✭✭cson

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are the days for direct flights to MCO ex DUB iirc. If you try booking on other days they'll route you through JFK/BOS connecting with JBU.

Was reading something once that when flying to Orlando on EI that you don't get the same ''treatment'' for a better word then if you were flying to JFK,KBOS, ect ? As in meals on the flight, free drink and stuff like that.

    This true ?

I flew Dublin to Orlando on EI last June and Dublin to Boston on EI in November - service is exact same.

Yeah the service is the exact same as to JFK/BOS/ORD with the difference being that there is no Premier Class [or whatever they're branding business class these days]. The Premier Class seats [nothing else mind you such as lounge access etc] can be purchased or upgraded to on your reservation for €50 I believe. They aren't the worst lie flats on the market so if you value your sleep you can pay €50 for a chance at a decent bit of a kip basically.

    .

Wrong. Google is your friend. Business class on MCO since last quarter of 2010.

It was never €50, more like €300 each way for the economy service in the business cabin. However those days are gone.

With US Airways, you could could get the flight for less than €500 return. Flight time is around the 7 hour mark.

I'm heading to Orlando via gatwick with BA in June, they're the best for service and flights, a bit dearer than virgin, but cheaper than Aer lingus direct

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭Suits

US Airways seem to be the cheapest from what I've heard, DUB-MCO via Philly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,930 ✭✭✭galwayjohn89

Pricing wise it all depends. At the moment US Airways are quite good value, although last week Continental was by a long way the cheapest. I flew EI transatlantic last May for the first time in a few years and they have come a long way. Was very impressed. Continental are still my favourite to MCO through EWR.

I'm a bit sceptical of flying US Airways again after they managed to loose 4 out of 8 bags on the way to PHL and only one made it to MCO. Not the best to be fair!

We are flying direct with Aer Lingus next October to MCO. The other airlines are still dearer than what I have paid direct. I booked our flights as soon as the 330 days from date of return became available. Since I have booked the direct flights have gone up from between €800 and €1200 odd depending on when I look.

The Thursday flight will be discontinued very soon. The week we are going in October there are only Tues and Sat flights.

You could book a flight to the UK first then book another flight with British Airways, Virgin etc.. to florida from the UK.

Thursday flights will be dropped from 18th April - 28th Oct though they will be running them for 2-3 weeks between June/July.

Must be due to low demand as EI aren't starting any new routes this Summer.

Did'nt EI scrap one of their 330s late last year ,ORD I think. Would that hve anything to do with it. Shannon T/A services will have started again so the 330 fleet should be in full use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Jamie2k9

Boston will be increased to 10 weekly. MCO has being dropped so there can be maintence done on A330 as that will be the only day that there will be 1 A330 free. If wasn't droped there A330 would be operating everyday.

One A330 also being used for Malaga ?

    Thanks for the replies people.

Like I said I'm just getting an idea, might consider New York as well.:)

Thats the first one in from JFK in the morning, it does a trip to Malaga and then on it's return does evening flight back to JFK. Proper usage of an aircraft.
