    Hello
my wife is due to see the doctor for the piab board in the next few weeks.
will the one doctor see her for her leg/neck/"mental" issues??
I seen on another tread that people should have there "own medical reports",because piab doctor will only go with what he/she has in front of them????
i have a solicitor, but they said my wife would only need reports if it goes to court.....
maybe someone has gone through this process and can shed some light on this.
    thank you

Too many cooks spoil the broth I'm afraid. If your wife is given bad advice by her solicitor she can sue him. If she follows the advice given on the Internet she has no recourse.

So follow the solicitors advice is my advice (that's apart from the fact that a qualified solicitor will know more about it than a random Internet poster).

    it really depends I'm afraid

I think it would be best if you had medical reports from your own doctor's findings as well. I know of another who went through this procedure and had their own medical reports - as best I can recall.

When i had my medical with an Injuries Board doctor I'm fairly sure that he had copies of the original medical report i got from my GP which i lodged to the IB at the start of the process. I brought my MRI scans and Xrays with me as well for him to look at on the day. I did not go through a solicitor but, i sent any reports, like one from my physio, to the IB to have attached to my claim, and judging by questions asked at the medical the Doctor seemed aware of what was in the report. I would assume that if you have given any reports to your solicitor since you lodged your claim he would have forwarded them on to the IB.

Not in the legal profession myself but am going through PIAB myself... slightly behind you from a time perspective (possibly a few weeks/possibly a month or two).... haven't had legal advice on it yet. So purely my own opinion....

If your wife has reports already, bring them with her. Medical opinions differ. I am proof of this. I've a bad injury to my hip. Hospital couldn't do anything with it, got a second opinion and he said there is nothing I could do about it....

I was seeing a specialist regarding my back and ended up mentioning it to him about my hip. He mentioned a specialist who is dedicated primarily to hip injuries so he referred me on. I thought to myself, I've nothing to lose... at the moment the prognosis is life long pain... if there is hope then fine.

Turns out something can be done with it and I'm in for surgery in a couple of weeks. He also found another undiagnosed issue with my hip that will also need surgical intervention.

I'd being the reports, don't push them on him but mention you have them... naturally a treating doctors report is going to be more relevant than someone who sits with you for X minutes.

    Hello
My wife is still getting treatment, but how will that work out when she goes to see the doctor from the pib?
Her gp filled out PIB form 7 months and gotten worse if anything.
Do they get an up to date report from her gp or just do an assessment themselfs on the day?

I spoke to PIB myself on pretty much the same topic and they told me that if there are updates etc. that they are happy to accept updated information which will be factored into the claim itself.

PIAB need to be in a position to understand the injuries, prognosis, out of pocket expenses and issues going forward. So naturally anything (from appropriate sources... treating doctors etc.) would be appropriate to give to them.

I'm in the same boat myself.... I'm in for surgery in a couple of weeks. Will need 1 more op after that, possibly a third.

Who is going to send them the up dates?is my wife supposed to go to her gp and tell them to send the PIB an up dated report?
Its a bit different for you kenn, you have had operations etc,my wife has been seeing a mental health doctor every week.
How will the PIB know this?
When does she claim her expences?

Have you engaged a solicitor? I would be inclined to ask them directly regarding your concern in this regard.

Naturally PIB will be able to tell that psychological issues haven't resolve as yet if your wife is still seeing a mental health doctor. Same applies if someone is still going to a physio.

Regarding expenses, up to date expenses should be supplied to PIAB also... naturally receipts. Give them a call, they are very helpful on many of these aspects.

Hi Micky, Im a Legal Executive working with this sort of thing everyday. As you know, PIAB is only the first step but they only deal with actual physical injuries so if your wife is suffering from psychological problems, the PIAB will not make an assessment. Your Form A should have stated mental issues and I imagine whatever medical report you sent in may also have mentioned it in the summary part. Tell your wife to tell whatever doctor she is seeing on their behalf that she is having psychological issues and they should put that in their report. Once PIAB know this they will decline to assess the claim and they will issue an Authorization which allows you to commence Court proceedings thro a solicitor. Hope this helps :-)

They will assess it from the doctors report. Whiplash will probably be about 15 grand to 20 grand as it was in my case anyway. Get a solicitor though if you want more advice as you wont find it here.
