    hi lads

i was going down fairview strand last night and i passed one of those speed vans at a hair over the limit.i was inadvertantly doing 53-55kmph and it didnt flash, so whats the odds im gonna recieve a fine/points.

nb i never break the limit.even tho some speeds are abnormally low in places i just dont do it.

You don't break the speed limit but you broke the speed limit?

    Doesn't have to flash.

Generally most cars speedometers are set to give you a reading 5% faster than you're actually going. Plus there is a tolerance level of a couple of km/h over the limit in which its impossible to prosecute you. Also I thought the speed limit in Fairview was 60km/hr?

I'd say the possibility is very low

I saw it in Fairview last night. I've seen it there before and seen it flash, so I would assume if it didn't flash you'll be fine

If it didn't flash, you're good.

i thought it was 60 aswell but some of my mates have said its 50
and concidering that the light level was so low(21:30) would it be likely that it would have to flash or can they get a reading in that low of light

    Nope.

You just keep your fingers crossed.

Sure look, if it got you, you'll find out all about it, if it didn't it didn't, hurray.

Live a little. Tension is good for you.

your speedo is probably about 10% out so 55 km/h indicated is probably OK

I found out interesting dependency, as my speedo is about 6.25% above the real speed, which makes counting MPH to km/h very easy, as I just have to multiply speedo reading in MPH by 1.5 and I get a real speed in km/h.

    In short
    20mph - 30km/h
    33.3mph - 50km/h
    40mph - 60km/h.
    50mph - 75km/h.
    66.6mph - 100km/h.
    100mph - 150km/h
    133.3mph - 200km/h.

Anyone know the turnaround time for these fines to arrive by post? I passed one of the new vans outside limerick last Sunday and it flashed. I was slightly over limit so not sure if it was flashing cos of me.

tension is an understatement, im ****tin bricks.i only passed the test a few months ago. Im fairly sure i didnt get caught tho.i reckon it must have needed to flash to get me, the light level was very low

I wouldn't worry about it OP! As what posters said above there is a discrepancy between your indicated speed and your actual speed. When I'm travelling at 50km/h indicated I'm actually clocked at 46km/h.
