Buying 2nd Hand Car - No trade-In

Hi,

I am buying a 2nd hand car for around 20k and looking at a few car models all in around 2008/2009 bracket. I started looking around start of Jan and 2009 models were generally out of my price range for a few 2 litre family cars I was looking at.. A4, Avensis , Passat, Mondeo and 3 series .

Anyway, I noticed in the last week or so that 2009 models are reducing by a couple of K's in the dealerships (on carzone.ie).

Am I right in thinking that owners who booked in new cars at the start of the year in the dealerships as trade-ins are now getting their new cars and hence more 2nd hand cars are available that dealers have to shift ?

I'm not sure what cars or from what garages you are looking at but I would expect to buy 2010 models of those cars for €20k, possibly 2011 depending on the model. €20k for a 3 year old example is just crazy.
If you have €20k to spend with no trade-in then I would be looking at cars that have asking prices of around €1000 to €1500 over that budget. The asking prices have a bit of fat built into them to allow for straight deal negotiations. Also you will not get the lowest price over the internet or phone, you need to be sitting in front of the sales person to hammer out the best deal.

The A4 and 3 Series are junior executive cars and will cost more than a similar year Mondeo or Avensis to buy.
