Sister in law has Mazda demio 2000 1.3 automatic , reckoned it was heavy on petrol , turns out she is getting 6.7 km per litre ( or about 19 mpg) anyone any idea why so low

I think the fuel cap may be a bit loose and the petrol is evapourating

Is it serviced? Exhaust ok? Any smell of petrol?

Has the 14 months serviced in summer exhaust fumes look normal no sign of anything wrong - only being driven very short distance ( 50- 60 miles per week ) car is probably always cold but even that can't account for such low mpg
