    lads,

When I first came on golf boards, about a year ago. I loved the minds and generosity of knowledge that people had. Boards, seems to have become a bit evil in the last while.

I guess the flaw with the internet is the inabillty to control what is said. The false persona that we all generate.

There seems to be a group of people who empower themselves by being online.

I'll be signing off Boards .ie Golf in a few months,

    Question ?

Is it a waste of time to be on boards/ golf . ie ?

Only around the corner, I guess it is like a brother you love who you can't tell.

We all have a talent and dream in us.

    Best of luck.

    Jul3s,

I guess the turning point for me, was the inability for amateurs to support their fellow hackers.

If we don't believe that we can hit the ball over 300 yrds , what is the point.

If your friends take the piss, get new friends.

Anyway, it has been a laugh, you have people of all ages and skill on here , it is good, but if we can't hit over 300 yrds , I'm gone. I need an over 300 yrd forum.

Ah stop crying, it is what it is. Great for some info, you just need to avoid the childish tetchy people and not make the forum your life

Time to watch McIlroy and co and put on a pot of tay :D

OK, I'm confused... you're leaving Boards because either your fellow boards members don't believe you can hit the ball over 300 yards, or because you have no interest in golf if you can't hit it over 300 yards, and this is your quest?

If the former and you're hitting the ball 300 yards, good on ya - I went back and looked at your 'Your Drive' thread - but most of us don't achieve that distance. Once in a while, sure, with the right conditions, but not consistently.

May I be blunt and ask the obvious question? If you're driving 300 yards (or if that is your goal), then why are you still trying to break 90? With a weapon like that in your arsenal clearly there are other areas of your game that you should be focusing on. As the man said: you drive for show, you putt for dough.

And if I have got the wrong end of the stick and you're trying to achieve 300 yard drives, why do you feel that is so important?

As for not being supported by other golfers on here, that's what happens if you express an opinion or make a statement that doesn't conform... a bit like me saying that Portmarnock is over-rated. But you'll find that on any forum, on any subject, so just ignore the people who annoy you.

Funny how it started to go downhill right around the time you started contributing... The golf forum was grand before you arrived & will survive just fine without you.

It all started with a drive to the first pub, would be two drives to next one a wedge to the next one , two rbzs to the next one , a 5 iron to the next one.

    Never drink and drive.

    I'm very emotional today. :o

I was only ever saying once in a while. Some days 2 a round. i would be long, but you know that is no good to score or if you have a slice.

Plenty others came on and said the same, poor acejeff, I'd say the lad gives it a good lash, he is just getting a good lash.

Kevin, you go under your name . That is honorable, the pseudonym is the downfall here.

Had an 83 the other day, so will be below soon. In fairness that was due to help here.

By the way , great book, I have two.

I guess you have had to put up with stick over your book. I would have loved a book about your trip.

    Best of luck man.

In fairness , I did rise to the bait.

No angel, but there is no N.V.C. online. In a pub we would be all grand. Well even more **** talk. But the nvp would be there. The context also.

Yes , your bang on, keep your life to yourself.

The likes of Deco and others do not deserve a look into others lives.

Great for info. And a good few smart lads with tips.

But some other lad dropped in from another forum and said, "holy **** was has gone on with the golf lads". He reckoned it was not good for our long term state of mind.

That sort of resonated with me, but online life is the way things are going. Not good in my view.

I'm not sure what this thread is about. It happens all the time on forums. People spit out the dummy and threaten to leave and then don't and then threaten again etc.

"I'll be signing off Boards .ie Golf in a few months" - well what's that about? If it's that bad then just stop posting. You don't need to announce anything.

As for hitting the ball over 300 yards.......I really couldn't care if you do or you don't. For some reason it's a question that attracts dicks.....those who claim their's is longer and those with short dicks that don't believe it.

I used to play in a society with a guy who played off scratch and I was the only one in the society who could usually hold my own off the tee but his 2nd shots were generally within 20 feet of the flag whereas mine were 3 times that. I didn't bum and blow about being as long as he was off the tee but instead I was embarrassed at how poor the rest of my game was.

You don't play off scratch so it is irrelevant how far you sometimes hit the ball.

I'm not into that at all, it was just that I mentioned it in passing. And lads went a bit mental.

It is clear we care what other people can do or say, there would be no forum then.

I'll break 80 then head off. I feel I owe that to the sound people that i have come across here.

I normally do what I say. I'm just making the point that this online thing has its problems. You end up with golf in a desert and JP mcmanus in golf when online kids run the world. I think there has been a celebratisation of the banal.

I know this is not Nelson Mandela, but facebook did change the world ;)

Again, if you were face to face with people it would not be the same.

Some people are a more aggresive online, I hope it does not spill over into the real world.

Best of luck man, the big world will turn anyway.

What has breaking 80 got to do with "staying" on this forum? If you like it then post otherwise don't.

You're anonymous. Nobody will care if you break 80 or not in the end. I can't imagine striking up a conversation in the pub saying "did you see FixdePitchmark shot 78 today". Who cares. Buy a diary if you you want posterity for your emotions. Some interesting posts from you earlier but it's getting a bit tedious now. 545 posts since last July says you need to get out more.

Someone should really explain to you how to use the "thanks" function on boards... You seem a bit confused by it.

As a general comment, Golfnut, and nothing to do with this thread and the OP, that, is a very wise observation.

But as it becomes an ever increasing part of all lives , lads with their i phones in pubs etc, is it possible to avoid.

I've started my methadone and slow withdrawl from boards. God it is hard.

I've resisted the Facebook, I Phone etc stuff. I think it's a bit sad alright to see grown men constantly on their hand held devices in pubs. I remember a time when we went to the pub for a pint and a chat. Happy days! :)

I enjoy Boards though, but I don't spend a lot of time here.

    Pure, unadulterated, attention seeking.

It should be called "I want another rambling meandering thread about nothing in particular, except that it is essentially about me."

More fool those who post repl..........oh!

If you are watching TV and something comes on that you dont like, you switch stations. You don't sit there announcing to all who will listen that you will change the channel in an hours time because you dont like whats on.

I don't know you FDP obviously, but if you don't want to post then don't. It's threads like this that has the golf forum in the so called state it's in more than anything else in my opinion.

Without wanting to continue to sound too damning, I wish you all the best with your golf and in your quest to shoot lower scores.
