    anyone interested in this game?
out the end of this month.

Looks like a more tactical version of world in conflict mixed with RUSE

Never heard of it until today - maybe I'm missing something but this looks almost identical to World in Conflict?

No, but they could at least pretend they've got an original bone in their body ;)

The tanks and troops look like they are travelling about 200mph. It might turn out to be good but my first thought was that it all looks a little sterile.

Supposedly the end of this month

    Whens it out?

Steam says 23rd February, and selling for 39 quid. To be fair it looks half decent, although looking into their map-control methodology reminded me of Company of Heroes. Man I miss that game :(

Right so iv been keeping a semi close eye on this game and im very impressed by some of the beta footage coming out.

Naw, haven't played it in ages and ages. Downloaded the (very excellent) Eastern Front mod, but that's about it. Just got out of the habit really, miss the game; it really was/is quality.

Saw this the other day, quite looking forward to it. It seems to be World In Conflict just on a grander stage.

Is it a steam only release?because I rang up game and gamestop, they said they weren't getting it in and none of the online retailers seem to have it up for pre order

I think it requires Steam, you can pick it up on other digital retailers. Don't know about any box copies being available.

Uh, I know that's meant to be an arsing-about video, but from that it looks more like Clusterf*ck: The Game. It looks terrible.

You have a 3v3 game where one both teams converge into one massive blob in the centre of the map what did you expect?

Like I said, it's meant to be an arsing about video, but looking around that, the game seems like a bit of a mixed bag & a bit of a mess. Will wait and see though

It's in the same vein as Total War and most comparisons of the game are being to TW which suffered from the same "mess". If your a finky micro player im sure it would annoy you.

Cheers for that, was waiting for a few reviews to pop up before buying it but that has me seriously 2nd guessing it. The bugs i can live with but the unit number problems and unbalanced stuff sounds ridiculous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 Mavvvy

I'm quite enjoying this, unit placement matters, and recon is key. The choice of units is crazy, however as said before some of them need to be repriced in terms of points for balance reasons.

Supply is hugely important also, you have to be mindful where you deploy the bulk of your forces so you dont get cut-off from your supply trucks.

The only thing this game has in common with world in conflict is the 1980's era, its more of a x-breed of ruse and close combat in my opinion.

I know it's only beta but how did you find the match making system?

No one seems to use the match-making system presently, i'm not sure if that's because it's poo or just people prefer hosting customs.

Picked this up today and im very impressed with it. The game runs extremely well when I honestly thought id be struggling but it seems this is a full optimised game for the PC. The single player campaign missions are fun so far. My only problem so far with it is that the deck management screen is quite awful to look at and understand going to have to read the manual to figure out what exactly is going on!

40 quid from Steam. Don't know where else you can get it.

so Is it worth the 40 euro price tag?is the single player campaign anygood?

    http://www.ultimatumgamekeys.com/en/game/buy-cheap-wargame-european-escalation-game-steam-cd-key

Grab it there for 25 something if you don't want to spend 40 quid.

It's a great game with good depth to it and if your a military nut you ll love the amount of units in it.

SinglePlayer has 20 odd missions and **** me are they tough the AI in this game is ruthless.
My post on the RPS forums.
I was actually quite surprised by the AI. They do a bit of everything and actually feel quite competent using their troops. Iv had Russians zerg me with MI24s then fall back as they see my AA hammer at them only for them to then unleash some tanks and BRDS to test my defences. They also love to flank on a large scale! Personally I love using infantry which may seem odd to some players who feel that you need to be all armour to get anywhere but the flexibility you obtain with saying send two squads of SAS up onto a key strategic location (obviously a forest!) and being able to harass enemy movements is just great!

The game pretty much feels like an open book in it's way of approaching battles and I like that. Now need to build a NATO deck that suits me, fast movement with precise hitting.

On my first ranked game I scouted well with Gazelles (though I know they aren't great recon units it's just a bad habit of mine) and was able to locate my enemy's main force in a northern capture zone. With this information I moved my main force to his east through forests and managed to burst through destroying his force there and then. That's when I learned my first lesson, don't push too hard if you can't see what is ahead of you and when you have to resupply. Unwisely I pushed ahead hoping to get a quick victory getting into his FOB and destroying it, sadly I was met with a Hind spam (which I dealt with quite well) and finally some T-54s did the most damage to my force. I retreated to the area I had just captured and tried to regroup. Then I learned another hard lesson, infantry in forests vs armour = world of pain. Lost 4 Leopards due to my incompetence in unit placement. Eventually he won on points difference (1500 to my 1400 something). I dominated in control points taken but this seemed to account for nothing!

Yeah it's fun being a challenge. Online with others either goes well or horribly bad depending on if your partner has a clue what is going on and can quickly react to things happening on the battlefield.

Whats it like compared to Ruse? (assuming you've played it)

No I haven't played RUSE. It feels almost like a Total War game (ie the battles) mixed with Supreme Commander mixed with CoH.

Got this game yesterday after seeing the reviews out.

At first I found it to be a bit sterile, in presentation atleast i'd say it is definately.

Once ingame and hearing autocannons going off I got goosebumps :D Playing away online now but it's not easy against people who've been around in the beta. You definately have to read the forums to catch up a bit on unit info etc.

One thing I have noticed tho is there isn't (atleast at this point) issues with hosts kicking you for being a low level, as i've found in games in the past.

Ingame name is whitecross.ie , add me to friends
