Flights to South America

I'm hoping someone can advise me on a few things...

I'm planning on travelling to South America for 8/9weeks this summer. The path I was planning on taking is from Bogota, Colombia - Quito - Galapagos Islands - Guayaquil - Lima - Cusco - La Paz - Rio De Janero - Home to Cork/Dublin

So I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to fly. Should I:
    - fly Dublin to Bogota, book whatever internal flights I need and fly Rio to Dublin
    - fly Dublin to Rio return and get an internal flight to Bogota (looks cheaper..but a bit of a waste of time...??)
    - Get a Round the World ticket

If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated!! Also, I'm a single female traveler so any wise words about places I can't miss or places I should avoid, that would be great!

Sounds better to me. There are no direct flights from Dublin to South America, so you'd have to connect in Madrid. I reckon Iberia has the cheapest tickets if you buy them now (I just got mine for €1000 roundtrip). The flight should take about 11 hours from Madrid. Oh, American Airlines might be a bit cheaper but you'd have to connect in Madrid AND a city in the US.

Might actually be more expensive IMHO, and it's a looong flight.

It's a HUGE continent, you'll be missing a lot anyways (all the south for example, there are gorgeous places in Argentina and Chile). But you will have fun and see some spectacular things (Galapagos for example).
