    Hi,

Myself and my fiance are wondering how many bottles of cava to buy for our wedding reception.
We have 137 people on the list at the moment and were trying to budget for how much we need to spend on this part of the wedding.
There are a fair few non drinkers in the group but as always you'll have a few people who compensate for this!
One person suggested 50 bottles which seems a lot to me as people will have an allowance of half a bottle of wine each with dinner.

we got 30 bottles for a reception of a 150 people. this gives u 180 glasses of cava. so 30 spare and not everyone is gonna take a glass

Have you had your wedding? If so did you have any left over?
The reason I ask, is that we're also looking at the drinks toast for the sit down meal. The hotel said to estimate between €700 - 1000 for this which is a lot extra. I was thinking that if we have enough / too much cava in what we buy for the drinks reception then we could use some of this for the toast.
Alternatively just give people a glass of wine:confused:

speaking from a fair amount of experience id get about 38 bottles of cava....is it definitely cava your getting? do u know the name of it? might be able to recommend something different....(have seen about 150 different types of cava,,,procecco etc not to mention champagne)
as regards to the drink for the toast what star hotel is it? you should put a cap on it...say max €6.00-6.5 per person this also stops some people ordering expensive whiskeys,,brandies etc.... its up to the hotel to make sure the cost isnt over it then....which it wont be due to some people not drinking or only having a mineral that cost a few euro...it balances out evenly enough with the hotel still making money off of it....them saying €700-1000 is a crazy way to work it....massive variation there

My sister's boyfriend works in the wine trade so we'll be getting advice and guidance (and more importantly a discount) on what to buy. Already he has recommended cava over procecco so I'm happy enough with things on that front.
Re: the toast, the hotel has said that they keep things reasonable and don't allow doubles to be ordered, brandy and the like. I think they were (to be fair) working off a price of €700/800 but as everything seems to be getting more expensive I added the extra on as breathing room.

We supplied 72 bottles for 92 guests and were left with about 12 after the wedding. We also had a free bar at our wedding, but with the proviso of no doubles, no full bottles of wine/spirits etc and had it cut off when the band finished at about half 12. A lot of people loved our bubbly, I think for a special occasion like a wedding people will enjoy a glass and then switch to a pint or whatever. I love my bubbly so I made sure there was plenty to go around.

All the hotels we looked at supply drinks reception for all guests on arrival so no need to supply your own champagne, saves alot of expense. Most people dont even like champagne, a nicer idea might be a glass of wine, have a choice or a fresh cocktail, something different

The hotel will supply drinks but I think they're charging too much and so want to do it myself. Hence the question. Throwing in cocktails would cost far too much.

A number of hotels we looked at had packages which included drinks reception with choice of these drinks. Didnt cost any extra.
