I couldn't see a thread on this anywhere, so apologies if i've just missed it.

Has anybody been to the fair today in the mansion house? Any opinions?

I have to say, i was fairly disappointed. I'm not sure what i was expecting, but every stand effectively just said "We're really really desperate for developers (i'm a graduate (with experience) of computer science) but ehhh, i dunno, check our website for vacancies or something, i guess". Or alternatively, "we're really desperate for developers but we're not taking on graduates, sorry".

I don't know what the point in the fair is. Was there some sort of secret handshake i was supposed to know?

i was not at this one but i think a lot of these companies at similar events are there for marketing and brand promotion etc. rather then anything else..

The company I work for are there, and they are hiring, software engineers in particular.

I wasn't specifically looking out for engineering roles, but there really wasn't much in the way of software development etc.

I would say go and have a look yourself, but honestly, you'd save a lot of time by just getting the list of exhibitors, and just going to the careers page on the websites for each company, because after the company spiel, that's what they told everyone to do anyway.

I saw a lot of people who had come suited up, with briefcases full of CV's, there was no point in that type of thing.

As Piriz said, brand promotion seemed to be exactly what was going on more than anything.

I was there. What kind of engineering are you looking for? If it's for medical device/pharmaceutical-related engineering, then there are some opportunities. If it's for any other type of "engineering", there's nothing else. Maybe ask Valeo, but they were looking more for software engineers. However, if you're looking for IT-related positions, there are plenty.
