Honda burning alot of petrol

    I have a honda civic 1.6 and its burnig alot of petrol lately.about €40 dublin to Limerick.Does that soind alot,What could be the problem,yr of car is 98.Thanks

    Assuming you've no obvious faults i.e engine light on, misfire etc etc, then on an engine of that age, the first thing to check is that there are no split/damaged or loose vacume pipes.

    120 miles, €40 so roughly 21mpg :eek:
    It's must have a fault, unless that's there and back on €40 which would be over 40mpg and perfectly acceptable.

    Based on a petrol cost of €1.55 per litre and a distance from Dublin to Limerick of 200km, that equates to 12.5 litres per 100 km or 22 mpg which does seem a bit thirsty for a 1.6 alright.

    Unless its due a service then that will have no effect on your problem unless its hugly overdue.

    Leave it in to have the problem diagnosed, then if they find/sort the issue, get it serviced.

    ya iv noticed it for the last few months,i know petrol has gone up but still i used to get alot more out of it before.

    21 mpg is still way below what would be expected for motorway driving, although I'm not quite sure exactly what your trying to say here...
