Does anyone know, if you're currently doing a six month internship with jobbridge, can you extend it to the 9 months?

Unfortunately no. You cannot extend your internship. I am in the same situation and was refused an extension. I was orginally on a nine month Fás WPP programme and then converted to JobBridge but they would only allow me to convert for 6 months. I thought I could get mine extended. My internship is ending soon.

Is any one else in the same situation, either those who converted or those who thought they could get an extension of an additional three months to make up nine months? I would really appreciate some feedback.

    No
    Dear Mango salsa

    Thank you for your e-mail.

An internship opportunity is intended to act as a probationary period to establish if the Intern is suitable to take up a permanent role with the Host Organisation.

It is not intended to act as a probationary period to determine if the intern is suitable to undertake a further period of internship with the same company.

As such, we are not in a position to extend internships. If an internship is advertised for a six month period, then an intern may remain with that Host Organisation for a maximum of six months.

    Regards

    JobBridge Team

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

If your employer was prepared to say that they needed another 3 months to ascertain whether or not to offer you a position, and that without this 3 month period, they would not be able to do so, you could ask them to reconsider.

    Anything is worth a try.

any updates on this? I'm on a 9 month internship, and want to try extend it to a year, if for nothing else but the experience. Having nine months experience in a particular field is kinda nowhere, whereas a year looks good on a CV

I hope you can see this. Just go to FAQ's for organizations in the Job Bridge site. Go to Q.26. You can extend it. Your host organization needs to apply by email. I'm off to do that now! :) Wish me luck!!

i thought the whole point of the internship is that the host company has you for a short while for completely free, and then sees you are great and decides to give you an actual job. if that is not the case then in reality the whole thing is a total scam, and if after 6 months or 9months the employer does not offer paid employment why would anyone want to extend it. it then becomes just free labour, does not help in creating jobs, infact actually encourages employers to not create jobs. Sorry for the rant but i cant see how after 9 months or 6 months and extension is good for anyone, either the intern or the jobs market.... :(

JobBridge internships can be for six months or nine months. A six month internship can be extended to nine months if all agreeable but no internship can go beyond nine months.
