In the Celtic tiger year, if you sold a house with a profit, did you pay tax on the profit?

Do you pay such a tax now?

Please excuse the my ignorance. Thank you.

Yes and you still do - its Capital gains tax but only if it's not your principal private residence

    No CGT on your PPR.

Any other house you own and sell - yes, you pay CGT on the gain (if any!!).
